Hi, I am having a problem when exporting bitmaps, I mainly use CorelDraw to do the artwork for my laser but every time I export it to the program that is used to control the laser the image is massively increased and I have to resize it. is there a default

Its a raster program being exported as either a .bmp or .jpeg whenever I export one and try to open it (even if I try to open it on another version of CorelDraw) it is massively oversize.

Bear with me here. Not sure I follow. A "raster program"? You mean it's already a jpg and you're exporting out as a jpg again?
Walk us through this step by step.

In a nutshell I import a photo into coreldraw either as a .bmp or .jpeg (usually as a jpeg) alter the photo to suit the laser and then export the image as either a .bmp or .jpeg into the laser program.

What kind of laser? are you using a RIP?

if it's a cutting laser , what you need is a vector file, oftwn Autocad file format (.DFX,  .DWG) or PDF, EPS, etc 

if it's a laser printer (such as a digital printer) you don't need to export

I don't understand why do you improt a bitmap and export the same job as bitmap. Seems I mising something. The difference could be relative to your settings. For example, if you import a 72 dpi JPG image, and export as 300 dpi, the output file will be bigger than the original. Also, if you import as RGB and export as CMYK, the output file will be bigger. If you export with the same size and resolution but embed the color profle that could cause a difference (btw the color profile is very important on most situations for having a correct color printing).
