I am in need of really emergency help. All of a sudden, every action I take in X7, causes my hard drive lite to come on. Going from one tab to another, the lite come on. I am running an I7, 16 Gbytes, medium video card and using 64 bit X7. Any thing I do, edit text, move text, move graphic takes for ever. A job I am working on that should take a couple of hours is taking a couple of days. I even reduced my display to "Draft", cancelled backups, I am saving by creating new files. No templates being used and in fact this is a file that was created last year (x7) and being update this year. I have scoured the forums, looking for anything - I must finish this job in a day or two.... that seems impossible at the current rate of work I am able to get done. I am working with two files both about 160 megabytes. Here is something that is the real puzzler, with just the welcome screen open, the same thing is occurring????????
Hello The SignGuy: First I like to say I am a computer performance watcher. Religiously I run CCleaner [for file & registry cleanup]. I also check all the temp file locations. As for the fonts, I have installed 505 fonts on this computer. I also run defraggler - down to 2 to 3%. I have no problems running Adobe CS3 products, or Corel's photo & Painter products. Even when running multiple graphic programs - there is no visible slow downs. My problem lies with Corel Draw. I turned on something that insists on constant writes [ or reads ?] to the hard drive. I have tried the different views, from wireframe to enhanced - same thing - sit and wait till the hard drive light goes out and perform a small task like move some clip art. Or copy and paste text, then it goes thru the read or write dance.
I bit the bullet. I deleted Corel Draw x7 and reinstalled it. Took it to version V17.6.1.1021 [latest and greatest] I am running windows 7 home edition, with the 16 gigs, a performance I7 and a decent video card. WELL, it seems a few things fix, but many of the old slow downs were not. Accessing the menu items is faster by 50- 100%. I still must wait till the hard drive light goes out till I can do the next thing. One thing was different when I reloaded, the WELCOME PAGE is broken, nothing is displayed.
I can not seriously recommended corel draw x7 or later versions to any one. This problem is a killer, lucky the person who I am doing this work for is extremely patient.
I did create a new page (file), put a few lines of artistic text. Same problem..... I do know that I did not create this problem, I have not touched any settings, period.
What the hell is the program writing to my hard drive????????????????????????????????????????????
Hello rangeryder: You can reset your draw by holding down the F8 key and starting CorelDRAW. Keep in mind that the reset will be like it was when you First installed it out of the box You MAY have something else going on at the same time??? Take a look at what else is running at the same time. ( in Task Manager to see whats going on. ) Good Luck
George
Try going to tools options global and turn off enable background tasks
What brand is your hard drive and what are the specs?
