New beginner user having a problem exporting a file in gif format with a transparent background. I am using CorelDRAW X3 Version 13 - when I go to export in gif format the option to choose transparent background is not highlited and can't be checked off. What am I doing wrong?
Gif exports do not rely on having a mask to delineate the transparent area of the image. Rather, it relies on selecting one of the 256 colors in the image and making it transparent. You have to decide if it is the border area that will be transparent or something in the middle.
If you want the border, create a square area around your image if you want the area around the image to be transparent and send it to the back. Give it a unique color not found in the rest of the image.
If it is a portion of the image inside the boundary that will be transparent make certain that area is a color not found anywhere else.
Essentially, you are making a color into a transparency mask. Select an odd color for test purposes. Ignore the lack of a transparent background on the CONVERT TO BITMAP dialog and then continue through the CONVERT TO PALETTED and when you get to the dialog GIF EXPORT, select the second radio button IMAGE COLOR and use your eyedropper to select the color you wish to be the transparent color. This color will be transparent in the saved file.
Good Luck.

Agreed. Export should be as similar from PhotoPaint to Draw as is possible. With the exception of the CONVERT TO BITMAP process (since it is already a bitmap in PhotoPaint), the dialogs should be identical.
If GIF worked like the PNG Export it would clear up a lot of issues.
