Long time user, first time typer :)
We recently had to upgrade to a new cpu (windows 7) and now when I try to open or import in CorelDraw I have to type in the file name + the file extension (or search and click on the name in a list) I have a thousand files all named numerically so all I've had to do in the past is just type the file name (ie 110), hit enter on the keyboard and the file would open or import. Does anyone know how to change it so I don't have to add the extension?
Thanks!!
Sue
I'm not sure if its the cause of your problem, but its always sensible to make sure this option is off:
Windows, in its infinite lack of wisdom, mistakenly thinks people shouldn't see file extensions but it is always better to know what your files are rather than having to guess.
To get to the list, browse to any folder in windows explorer, go to tools > folder options and scroll the list down a bit.
Above is for windows 7 and might be slightly different in other versions.
Another thought -- when you browse to a folder in CorelDraw (eg to open CDR files) you usually see a dropdown in the bottom right:
If you change the dropdown to CDR (or whatever is appropriate for the operation you are doing) only CDR files will be shown and I think that setting will usually be remembered for the next time you open files of the same type.
Again, above is for windows 7 and might not be available in earlier versions.
Hi Harry,
Thanks so much for taking the time to try and help! Unfortunately neither of your suggestions have/will work. I did try having windows show the file extensions but that didn't help. I'll also mention that I can still just type the name without the extension in both Word Perfect and PhotoPaint. And unfortunately (?) all the files are the same .cdr so changing the file format didn't change anything. I'd appreciate any other thoughts though :)
Thanks!
Was your previous computer also windows 7 ?
No, we were running XP.
