Layer of aztec barcodes getting corrupted when saving from cdr to cmx?

Hello,

We create holograms for packaging and security purposes, and all of our projects run through X3 before going through a couple proprietary programs.  We build our imagery as a cdr file and then export a cmx to go through our other software. Part of our security features is including 0.1 mm sized aztec barcodes into every image we create. However, we have recently run into an issue where the barcodes (separated onto their own layer) will become corrupted in the process of saving as a cmx. This not only destroys the barcode, but also corrupts our projects when going through our other software.

Some more details to help clarify:

  • Because the barcodes are so small, we copy/paste them into a grid pattern over the entire image. This results in around 100 barcodes total, all on one dedicated layer.
  • The barcode is originally made up of small individual squares, then welded together to create a single curve
  • This welded single curve barcode is then copy/pasta-ed to create our grid.
  • I read elsewhere on this forum that there are node count limits for certain curves, but the welded barcode only has around 360 nodes total

We have found some workarounds for this issue, but if anyone could shed some light as to what's causing this corruption we would be very grateful.

Can you elaborate on "Destroys the barcode?" And "how" does it exactly corrupt anything? Screenshots and examples would be helpful.

  • 0.1mm is rather small, especially if you mean that 0.1mm is the height of the complete barcode (ie, the width of each bar is substantially less than 0.1mm).

CorelDraw has a configurable drawing precision, which defaults to 3 decimal places. If X3 is the same as more recent versions, you can increase it at tools > options > workspace > edit. I'm not sure if that will help with the CMX export if there was no problem with the original CDR file, but you can try increasing it as a first step.

If that does not help, then create a file with only a specimen barcode (use a random code if its confidential), resize it as you need it and upload both the CDR and CMX files (hint: use rich text in the reply and look for the insert media icon) and we will see if we can improve it some other way.
