corel 12 vistaand windows 7 compatibility

dear corel, please, please, please make an corel 12 patch for vista and windows7 platforms. i've been using corel draw for 9 years and thru this time i came up to the conclusion that the corel 12 is the best version so far. and now i can't use it on the laptop because it can not be installed on vista or win7.

X4 is the most current version. 12 is, what, 4 or 5 years old now? It
stopped being "in production" years ago. Why would any software company
release patches for an archived application for Operating Systems it was
never designed to run on? They'd have to rewrite so much of the code that it
wouldn't be cost-effective for them. And Windows 7 isn't even out of beta
yet so whatever specs they might have for W7 now may not be what Microsoft's
final gold version would be, thereby possibly making whatever patch was
created unuseable. Upgrade to the current version which is Vista capable.
  • I don't agree with you. X3 and X4 are much better than the v2, you have a lot of new features and compatibility. Specially for Prepress, Sign making and professional output, X3 and X4 have superior features and more speed. Th v12 is too old and there's no way to upgrade. Also CorelDRAW X3 need a patch for work correctly under Vista sytems.

But of course you can install CorelDRAW 12 under Vista and Win7, I know most people that use Corel12 with Vista. Only you don't have some features.

I respectively disagree, too. In my humble opinion, X3 was the biggest/best/most innovative version, Corel ever released. The new and improved features were mind-boggling.  Smart Fill, Boundary Tool, Fit Text to Path, PowerTrace,  Crop Tool etc. etc. (just to name a few) are all real-live processes that I use everyday, all day long.

I can't imagine going back to using version 12 on a daily basis.

Have you tried the newer versions? I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Corel 12 is 5 or 6 years old now.................ancient in computer years.

X4 it the best yet. Like drrr the latest version is always the best just sometimes you have to wait for the first SP to arrive.

For many of us the betas are the best versions yet and the small annoyances that go with that are less then the excitement of being on the edge.

You guys get big benefits because the beta team is already up to speed to help you before the software is released.

The latest version will always win for support because that is where the top users and beta testers are focused.

And you are buying the product that contributes to the health of Corel. This is in everyone's interest. If you want better software in future you need to contribute to the revenue of today.

    Yani,

You forgot to mention just how "vocal" the Beta teaters can be while testing ! Quite a passionate bunch.

  • What I'd like to know is why I can open some file formats in Corel Draw 8 and I can't open the same files in 12. Do I have some thing missing in the program or maybe a plug in?

All this messing up and I'll have to change design program, my version 12 cannot decode any EPS or AI or any format that is not Corel Draw 12.

It seems as though the more we advance, the more we regress, Microsoft has proved that perfectly with Windows 7 (Biggest waste of money). Which cannot keep Corel 8 in a stable state.

X3 Is really awesome. It is very fast, smooth and output on a dime. Love X3....Hope X5 will speed up a bit.
