The button that should launch Visual Studio Tool for Applications is always greyed out.
I verified that Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applcations 2012 is installed.
Am I doing something wrong or this an issue with CorelCAD?
Thanks, John
Klaus, thanks for your quick reply.
So does that mean I need something aside from the :Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Applications 2012" which was installed with ColerCAD?
I also have CorelDRAW X6 which opens "Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications" when I select "Macro Editor" as well as a 'VSTA Editor" which opens something else.
Obviously I don't know what I am doing but please let me know if it should work with the software i already have installed.
Thanks again, John
In more recent versions of the Corel products, MS VSTA is integrated as version 2012. With that, the editor is not part of the embedded programming interface (called "standalone mode") but requires Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate, Premium or Professional to be installed.
CorelCAD 2015 and newer include MS VSTA 2012 as well as CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X7 and CorelDRAW Technical Suite X7.
In previous versions (such as CorelDRAW X6) the programming editor was part of the older version VSTA, that's why you can access it from within CorelDRAW X6 without any further developer software installed.
In CorelCAD 2015 / 2016 you can load and run existing VSTA code and also record your own macros using the commands/ buttons in the VSTA Manager toolbar. For coding (creating and/ or editing code) you need the Visual Studio release as explained here.
Best regards,Klaus
OK, thanks again Klaus,
I think I understand now.To record and play macros withing CorelCAD i just need the free VSTA 12 that was installed at same time as CC. If I want to edit the macros in a separate window I need to install MS VSTA Professional which I need to purchase from MS.
I saw Microsoft also has a full featured version called "VSTA Community" which is free but only for personal (non-enterprise) use. I did install that and now my VSTA Editor button is no longer greyed out. When I press it I get response from CorelCAD saying,
Please wait, loading ...
: done!
But nothing happens. I won't fault CorelCAD for this since it is not the version of VSTA that it was intended for.
I will move on and spend my time learning CorelCAD and LISP for now. Is there a difference between LISP and AutoLISP? If so, which one should I learn?
Thanks for your patience, John
