MANUAL FLATTENING SIMPLIFIED Further clarifying what Mr. Jeff Harrison wants to say in his blog Hi folks, Manual flattening is the best solution to avoid any possible headaches in publishing to PDF or to RIP. So let's see how to manually flatten the piece of design. WHAT OBJECTS TO FLATTEN: Drop Shadows Transparencies Transparent Bitmaps Power Clipped Items (If you have just the pure vectors, you don't need to flatten them) And anything in between the above mentioned objects SIMPLE TECHNIQUE FOR FLATTENING NOTE: Before proceeding with the flattening don't forget to backup your original unflattened .cdr file for future editing. Open Object Manager, create a new Layer and name it "VECTORS" Hide that newly created layer if you like to better assess what's going on. Now come to your original design layer(s). Start pushing your Pure vector Items up, by pressing Cnt+Home. Click Yes on the warning that you receive and also tick "don't show warning again" if you like. Once you've pushed all of your pure vector items Up, you now have all the contents ready to be converted to one single bitmap. Don't to forget to "show" the layer that you had hidden earlier In converting these kinds of items to bitmap, "resolution" is the most important thing. If you are dealing with small items, like for example a business card, you need to convert it to bitmap at much higher resolution than you do a Sign or hording. NOTE: If you have more Vectors than Flattening Contents you can do the above mentioned process in reverse order; for example instead of creating layer above, you can create new layer and send it deep beneath the stacking order and start pushing your Flattening Contents down by pressing Cnt+End Example: Complete Design (Click for a larger view) Pure Vectors (Click for a larger view) Flattening Contents (Click for a larger view)

Hi folks, Manual flattening is the best solution to avoid any possible headaches in publishing to PDF or to RIP. So let's see how to manually flatten the piece of design.

NOTE: Before proceeding with the flattening don't forget to backup your original unflattened .cdr file for future editing.
In converting these kinds of items to bitmap, "resolution" is the most important thing. If you are dealing with small items, like for example a business card, you need to convert it to bitmap at much higher resolution than you do a Sign or hording.
NOTE: If you have more Vectors than Flattening Contents you can do the above mentioned process in reverse order; for example instead of creating layer above, you can create new layer and send it deep beneath the stacking order and start pushing your Flattening Contents down by pressing Cnt+End
