Did you know that Corel DESIGNER X5 supports a number of new CGM industry standard profiles?

You can now export to new CGM v4 profiles such as WebCGM 2.0, WebCGM 2.1 and S1000D (issue 4.0 compliant).

In addition the ATA GREXCHANGE profiles and also ActiveCGM profile are further supported.

With "Hot Fix 2" for Corel DESIGNER X5 there's another enhancement added: You can now export CGM files with compressed bitmaps. Choose either RLE or JPEG compression in the initial Export dialog when selecting CGM as output format. This will reduce the file size of graphics with embedded images (bitmap graphics) significantly on CGM export.
Hot Fix 2 can be downloaded from here.

Another option to generate smaller file size CGM files is ZIP compressed WebCGM (*.cgz or *.cgmz). For using this compressed CGM file format select "CGZ - Compressed CGM" as file format in the initial Export dialog.

  • We also have a requirement to create and amend WebCGM illustrations for use in S1000D spec documents. It is my observation while trialling Designer that the CGM loses the apsid and apsname attributes on export.  These are the very elements that make a hotspot as used in S1000D documents. When I queried Corel as to whether I was performing the export correctly, I was told that because I was using an evaluation copy of the software, they don't answer questions. Consequently, Designer was struck off our list of candidate applications for the business.

  • I need to create CGMs accordingly to ATA GREX 2.6. How do I set the required APS attributes "apsid" and "apsname" in Corel DESIGNER X5?
