Free Download Enhances 3D Illustration Export and Technical Illustration Workflow

Ottawa, ON – July 21, 2009 – Corel Corporation (NASDAQ: CREL; TSX: CRE) has introduced a new update for Corel DESIGNER® Technical Suite X4, its flagship technical design product. Now available for download, the new update (Service Pack 1) improves the technical illustrator’s workflow with the addition of a number of enhancements, including an upgrade to Right Hemisphere® Deep Exploration™ CCE (v. 5.7.3). The Deep Exploration CCE upgrade gives users more advanced 3D CAD data importing capabilities which directly translates into higher quality output.

Developed in conjunction with Right Hemisphere, this no charge update for Corel DESIGNER Technical Suite X4 dramatically reduces or eliminates the need to manually rework 3D design-sourced technical illustrations.  With new bezier curve support in this software update, users can now convert 3D design data into solids. Instead of outputting segmented lines, the software publishes clean, continuous lines.  The result is higher quality technical illustrations and smaller vector files.

For customers who have purchased the Deep Exploration CCE Upgrade, the service pack also gives direct access to up-to-date 3D CAD file formats, including SolidWorks® 2009, CATIA V5 R19, Pro/ENGINEER® Wildfire 4.0, and Siemens PLM (UG) NX 6 files and new support for Solid Edge assembly files.

“Our partnership with Corel is focused on a single goal – working together to make the technical illustrator’s job easier,” said Right Hemisphere Director of Marketing Bob Merlo.  “By empowering Corel’s users to take data directly from engineering, we are enabling them to work more efficiently, to get better leverage of their corporate 3D assets, and to ensure a higher degree of accuracy and quality in their technical illustrations.”

“Tech illustration pros are constantly being asked to work with the latest formats and deliver results faster than ever with fewer resources. Enhanced 3D publishing support in this latest update means that customers don’t have to choose between publishing a lower-quality piece or spending more time and money to manually rework less-than-perfect images derived from 3D CAD files,” said Klaus Vossen, Product Manager for Corel DESIGNER Technical Suite. “Offering a powerful 3D feature set that can’t be found in any other affordable technical illustration software, Corel DESIGNER Technical Suite X4 ensures that users can focus on delivering exact and effective illustrations on time and on budget.”

In addition, this update enhances compatibility with Adobe® PDF, AutoCAD® DWG/DXF, Microsoft® Visio® (VSD) diagrams, Micrografx Designer® (DSF) and TIFF files. All of these enhancements, combined with further customization of the program’s UI, will make the technical illustration process much more seamless for Corel DESIGNER Technical Suite X4 customers.

Available in two versions, Right Hemisphere Deep Exploration is a client software application that enables users to automatically transform, author and publish lightweight 3D and 2D file formats derived from existing engineering CAD data and other digital content. Corel DESIGNER Technical Suite X4 includes Deep Exploration CSE which automatically translates, optimizes and publishes high quality illustrations sourced from a wide variety of popular 3D formats. Customers may also purchase the Deep Exploration CCE Upgrade which expands support to over 80 3D CAD file formats, including those generated by industry leading MCAD applications such as CATIA, NX (formerly called Unigraphics), Pro/ENGINEER and many more.
