In CD 8, after drawing a 2 point line, I could deselect by simply clicking on an open document space. Now I have to use the ESC key. Is there a way of going back to simple deselecting by clicking somewhere on the document? This has become a definite hindrance in the 2018 upgrade. Help would be greatly appreciated.
Not any way that I'm aware of, but the Escape key seems to do the job. Please tell us why it is so important to be able to deselect directly after drawing, and why Esc isn't good enough.I mean, as soon as you do anything else, it will be deselected anyway. Just curious. :-)By the way, this automatic deselecting seems to have disappeared somewhere between version X6 and 2017.
Thanks Ronny for your speedy reply. I do O scale modeling primarily using the 2 point line tool which requires deselecting before continuing in that I primarily don't want the new line segment linked to the previous line, which it is when you begin a new line from the previous line's node. Before I could click on an open area, deselect the line and keep on going. Most of my line drawings needs to be not linked for future manipulation. Many times, to get complicated models accurate such as an electrical power line tower, lines need to remain not linked for revision purposes.
I've been searching for an answer to this issue since I upgraded. So, I appreciate you giving me a definitive answer. I'll just deal with it. I love Coreldraw and have recommended to several colleagues. Many thanks, Ronny
You could try Tapping the Space Bar then clicking an open document space then Tapping the Space Bar again. It works here. Not ideal but will get you there.
Edit... Reading Ronny's answer carefully that is the way to go.
Actually that's not to bad. Better than ESC key. Thanks
Thank you for your description of how you work, now I better understand why you need this functionality. There may be a way to make it a little easier for you, if you have a free mouse button, or are willing to sacrifice the mouse wheel button for example. There is a free software called AutoHotkey that I really can recommend. It is an automation software that runs in the background (small and invisible) and its scripting language can be used for many different things, from defining simple hotkeys for your keyboard to writing rather sophisticated "programs".In your case you could for example make your mouse wheel button work as the Esc key, but only as long as you work in Draw.I personally have double click assigned to the mouse wheel, and as a matter of fact, a press on the mouse wheel after drawing a line with the 2-point line tool, made it possible for me to start a new line, not connected to the first. The code for assigning double click to the wheel button is very simple and looks like this: MButton::Click 2The code to execute Esc instead should be like this: MButton::send {Esc}You might want to give it a try, AutoHotkey is useful for many things.
