CorelDraw Graphics Suite 2018, Windows 7 Pro, Laptop PC
When I enter text I see this strange slanted purple box next to the cursor. See attachment. The text in the purple box is barely readable. If I click outside the purple box the text appears as it should. Problem is I can not edit the text as it either goes into the purple box or the program crashes.
I have tried clearing all cache systems. Even uninstalling and reinstalling the program.
Please, if you have any idea what I am doing wrong, let me know. I have used CorelDraw for many years and have never encountered this.
Does it still look like this if you switch to Pick tool, or is it only as long as the text is selected with the Text tool? Are the characters selected (highlighted) and if so, what happens when they are not? What happens if you add an outline to the text?Would it be possible to post the file so we can have a look at it?(CDR files are not accepted here so you must ZIP it first)
When I switch to the Pick tool, the text shows in the text box as it should.
When I select the text again with the Text tool, everything becomes highlighted, garbled and slanted.
When I put an outline on the text and select with the Text tool, the text is no longer garbled but remains highlighted and slanted.
I will try to post the file. New to this forum so bear with me.
All good questions, thanks.Crash Text.zip
Sorry, I'm out of ideas. My guess is some kind of conflict with something, maybe something with Windows or the graphics driver.Has it been like this since you first installed Draw on this computer? Is 2018 the first version or did you use another version on it, that worked?
It started last weekend. I installed 2018 in April this year.
Something interesting happened yesterday. A tech from Corel sent me a trial of 2019. I uninstalled 2018 and installed the trial. The trial is working perfectly.
Problem is it is only a 15 day trial and so far no word from Corel on what I do after the trial ends.
Thanks for all your help. If I stumble on anything new, I will post it here.
I think you can guess what will happen when the trial expires. ;-)Strange that it worked until a week ago and also a bit strange that it works with 2019.Use the trial as long as it works, maybe it will be worth the cost for the upgrade. If not, remember to save back all files you create to version 2018, or you won't be able to open them if you decide to go back to 2018.Maybe it corrects itself after being uninstalled, but I see you have tried that already.Good luck.
I am already on it and pushing Corel for an answer and a free upgrade. I'm older than you and remember the days when people took pride in their products by backing them up. I'm afraid those days are gone.
I have taken your advise and am saving all 2019 files as 2018.
Thanks again for all your help.
I hope you find a solution that works for you.
For a number of reasons, I prefer 2018 to 2019 - so I would really, really wish to get my 2018 working correctly again if I were in such a situation.
I am trying to get my 2018 version replaced. Unfortunately, the Corel rep I've been communicating with is not answering my requests. Honestly, If I knew how poor their customer service is, I would have gone with Adobe Illustrator.
Hi gsandf, Could you share your Tech Support Ticket number?
Thanks,
Eric
