CorelDRAW Help : File formats : Supported file formats : Adobe Illustrator (AI)
To export an Adobe Illustrator file1 . Click File Export.2 . Locate the folder in which you want to save the file.3 . Choose AI - Adobe Illustrator from the Save as type list box.
When I want to export a CDR file as an AI, there is no option 3. "Choose AI - Adobe Illustrator from the Save as type list box."
AI is not listed in the list. Although in Tools/Options/Global/Filters/List of active filters: AI is in the list
What version of CorelDRAW are you using? In the past few versions of CorelDRAW the "Save As" command has included Adobe Illustrator AI (as well as PDF) in the top level of format choices just under CorelDRAW CDR. Adobe Illustrator format has always been available as a choice under the Export command.

PDF is available, but ai is missing in export and save as options.
Corel Support supplied the solution:
METHOD 21. Go to Start2. Click Run.Note: Windows Vista / 7 users can use the Start menu search box.1. Type %appdata% and press Enter.2. Open the Corel folder.3. Right-click the CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2018 and choose Rename.4. Change the name to CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2018.old.
ai appears in the export and save as options
Advisable to save and export one's customized workspace first!
