We frequently find dimension lines in our schematics that are dynamic but have a broken link or are linked to a node on an unexpected object. How do we edit a dimension line and re-link it to the desired object or nodes? While the dimension line can be recreated, it is often frustrating because it still requires you to modify the font, position, and other attributes to the original. Thank you for any assistance.
I dont think you can, I think you need to recreate it.
One possible "workaround" might be to select both the dimension and the shape, duplicate in place (hit the + key on the number pad), remove the fill & outline of the shape then move one end node to the desired node. Then delete the dimension from the original.
Been playing around with another possible workaround. Create a straight horizontal line segment (any length) just two points. Make the horizontal dimension to that line segment. Set the outline color to none. Use the shape tool to snap the ends to any node on the shape as desired. Same for a vertical one too.

Once you have it set up, a Style Set can be used to set the Dimension properties, Outline properties, and Character properties with a single click.
You can import / export Style Set information, so you don't have to do the tedious setup over and over again. You can reuse a Style Set in other documents.
Thank you, Myron, I love your creative approaches. However, you lost me somewhere. I assume you are saying we create a straight line, remove the color, then place the line end points on the two points of interest on the original shape, correct? We now have two objects?
The problem with this seems to be two-fold. First, when you reshape the original object, the invisible line nodes won't move with the nodes of the original object, thus no dimension change. Second, wouldn't it just be easier to recreate the dynamic dimension line attached to the desired original object nodes?
Another anomaly we have found is that occasionally one node of the dynamic dimension line will break away from the associated object node (which we knew how). This dimension line node is no longer attached to the object, but the other node is still attached. With the PICK tool active, we can move the free dimension line node away from the linked object, even though this is a dynamic-linked dimension line (dynamic icon active on toolbar). We have tried to re-attach the dimension node by dropping it on the object node, but then there is no way to link the free-moving dimension node back to the object.
Not sure why Corel makes it so difficult to link and unlink dynamic dimension line nodes from the source object. Wish they would address this issue, especially since the links to the original object seem prone to breaking from time to time.
