Hey, I have some files that were created with 2018 coreldraw, and I'm trying to open it with my 2017 corel draw and I got this message: "this file is version 20.0, to open this file you must upgrade your version of the program" ...is this true or am I doing something wrong? I cannot open 2018 coreldraw files in my 2017 coreldraw version? thanks for the help.
Corel didn't used to play this %^#$^*& Adobe game! IN FACT they USED to PRIDE themselves on the opposite! But they've been getting more and more greedy and more and more controlling.It is for this very reason that I've been using Inkscape more and more and encourage others to learn it.
What does that have to do with a 2 year old thread about someone trying to open a CorelDRAW file saved in a newer version than the one he or she was using? Every version of CorelDRAW ever released required users to save CDR files down to earlier versions in order for them to be read on older versions of CorelDRAW. Most other graphics programs work the same way. Very few save latest version files that are fully backward compatible with older versions of the application.Now one gripe I do have with Corel is how the last few versions have removed all read or import support of CorelDRAW CDR files made older than version 6. That really sucks for long time users who have old archive files from the mid or early 1990's. I either have to fire up an old vintage PC loaded with CorelDRAW 9 to read old CDR files or use a different application (such as Inkscape) to import them. Adobe Illustrator can open AI files over 30 years old made all the way back to the first version. At the bare minimum I think CorelDRAW should be able to open or import CDR files made back to version 3.
