I am running Corel Draw 2019 on Windows 10 and have yet come across another mind-numbing issue. I am working in a file just fine, then I perform an action, such as import or transparency, and I get the spinney wheel of death. Go to Task manager and Corel is not responding. Sometimes it will eventually perform the action after an extended period of time (4-5 minuets) or nothing at all. Force quit. Save Auto backup of file when I reopen the program and then every action takes forever, if at all. This is very frustrating. Any insight would be most helpful. Thank you!
Same for me. I bought a new SSD 1T HD because I thought it had been my old drive slowing this program down to a crawl. That didn't work so then thought I might need more ram, had 16 ddr3 and now have 32. Still working slower now that it was if that is even possible.I am running AMD FX 8350 8-core processer , ACPI x64-based PC. I have the AMD Radeon HD 6700 display adapter.
I contacted Corel thru both chat and phone, they tell me they will have a tech contact me thru email. I have got 2 emails one asked me to follow a reinstall which wiped out all my custom tool bars and settings. I couldn't export this for some reason before I did the clean install. The second email dealt with my docker and custom tool bars but offered no help other than asking for a scree shot.
It takes a good minute for 2019 to load, I can't get it to just load a blank page. Help files are not the same as the menu options I have. After loading a new page it takes several seconds to go from one tool to the next. Drawing lags so badly that you have to stop in between stokes. The text tool is the same. Typing any word longer than 5 letters causes it to just blank out and then about a minute later the text will show up. If you have to wait even 5 seconds between every move on a page then something is very wrong.
Moving an object from the docker takes a good minute for the arrow to place it shows up.
Custom tool bars will not stretch across full width of screen. They hug the left side and then the tool bar on the end of the row will have a drop down menu even if it is only one item. The Content Browser will not let me delete file names for content that is no longer there. The Dockers can't be made any smaller only larger.Checking the "don't ask me that again" box never seems to work. I have resorted to installing CorelDraw 5.
So what now? Guess I need to get my money back.
Your issue, oriole, is most certainly caused by something in your system, the question is what.If you select a text and open the font selection dropdown, how many fonts are listed? Can be seen at the top of the list.Just to start somewhere. :-)
I do have a lot of fonts installed. I would say close to 500 BUT I have the same fonts installed on Draw 5. I have been using Corel Draw since 8, not X8, so that is a long time. I was lucky I still had this old X5 disk. I can try deleting fonts but like the custom work space it takes so long to get them back how I want them. Yes I did also install the new Font Manager so maybe that was the problem??? I will check your suggestion when I get back. Thanks for the reply.
Oriole, 500 fonts isn't a lot (I've got over 4k) provided they are all in a folder locally.
However sometimes Font Manager does weird things, and it's always worth trying rebuilding the font database by starting Font Manager with F8 held down, then accepting both options.
Well somehow my continuing reply didn't show up here. I do have a lot more than 500 but not as many as you have. I will give your idea a try. This slow thing is wearing me down.
Corel Font Manager probably sees and lists a lot more than the 500 installed fonts, so it is a good idea to check how many, and where they are located. How many are listed in the font list in Draw, or in Corel Font Manager? As you may know, Draw is able to use also fonts that are not installed in Windows, as long as they are in Font Manager's database.
Well the new font manager seems to have all the fonts on the computer but I have yet to see anyplace that says how many are installed. The old one use to show on the top how many were installed and if I remember right it also warned against installing more than 1000. This new manager seems slow as well and harder to use. I guess I should have just uninstalled all of them and then put back just the ones I wanted. Duh. I will do that tonight.Other than fonts what else could make this run so slow. I am getting no help from CD.
I believe the new font manager automatically finds and lists all fonts in Windows\Fonts and maybe some other folders (don't know which ones), no matter if they are installed or not. This can be a considerable number of fonts that Draw then has to add to its font list, which may slow down the time it takes to open the font list for example.
There are a couple of things you can try:
Start Corel Font Manager while holding F8.This will delete and recreate Corel's font database from scratch (check "Font database" in the dialog that appears) and hopefully remove some unwanted fonts from the database. The fonts won't be deleted from your disk, don't worry.
In Draw, select the Text tool, click anywhere and then click to open the font list.Click the "funnel" icon to open the filter list.Check "Installed" under "Font status".This will make Draw list only the fonts that are installed the traditional way and may speed things up.Give it a try.
Okay so did that. I checked the funnel and have 3710 fonts. Some seem to be MS system fonts. I really could do with about 50 that I use a lot and only 3 that I use for my work. I didn't get installed, the funnel just says filtered and then I have the list. When I scroll down that list I see stuff that I wish I could just uninstall from this list rather than from the font manager. I just tried using the standard default workspace thinking it was something to do with my custom workspace. When I tried to acquire image, I am getting a "cannot select device" notice. Yet this worked fine with my custom work space. ????? Still even with the default workspace I am getting the tools all blinking out before rendering the the line or box. Nothing seems to be working. It is just amazing to me that my old X5 works better than this. How is it that WIA is showing my scanner and the default workspace won't open it while the custom one will? This is so goofy!
