Need help with cut contour accuracy
I think he's referring to the cut alignment. Sometimes the machine will go off track by a mm or two. I think David's suggestions to add a bleed to the colours being cut works well.
Hi, yes you are right. It's more that it seems to be off 1 or 2 mm or so. For example, if I print and cut the word 'heat' now in yellow fill, add a cut contour line set to hairline, when I remove it from vinyl there's a small white line of vinyl around the yellow word, not across the whole word, just in some places.
It really depends on the artwork. If it's just a vector then you can use the contour tool. Make a contour a little bigger than the artwork itself, make sure it has the same colour as the object then make the original object have the cut line outline colour and no fill (see image below). Let me know if this isn't clear and i'll make you a short video.
Hi Paul, I've really found this helpful. Thanks for taking the time out. Unfortunately when I put a boundary on (followed some online videos) then add a cut line, my line simply goes around the boundary and not inside it. What am I doing wrong?
Hey Snake,
Click on this link
to view a small video showing you a simple demonstration of the process. I'm not sure what brand of machine you're using but in my case we're using Roland machines so it requires a magenta swatch color called "contour cut" which can be found in the Palettes docker under spot>roland>roland versaworks.
Please let me know if this isn't clear enough and I'll create a more detailed explanation. What I suspect is that you're adding the contour cut color to the outside of the bleed instead of the object itself.
Let me know if this works for you.
Paul
Paul I've cracked it! Thank you so much for your help! You will see from my picture there is not one bit of white, the boundary worked. However it hasn't worked on the inside of my letters? I must be doing something wrong. . . Unfortunately I couldn't see the click paths on video due to blurring to know what you clicked to know if I did it your way or a different way but either way I wouldn't have done this without your help :)
I'm glad you got it to work. If you follow the link I provided and look in the top left right under the OneDrive name you'll see a button that says "download" if click it and download it to your hard drive you'll be able to see the video in 1920x1080 HD resolution. This way you can pause and follow the steps I've provided. Judging by your explanation it sound like you're using the "boundary" command from the property bar or the "shape" or "shaping" docker (depending on what version you're using). If you use the "contour" tool from the tool box or from the contour docker instead that will allow allow you to create the bleed inside of the text holes as well.
If you you don't have the contour docker open go to window > dockers > effects > contour to open it up.
Let me know if you're still having trouble and I'll try to help you out some more.
Good luck!
