Got an email to purchase 2019 upgrade and it's also stating upgrades are ending??? Is it going the dreaded "subscription" (rent, never own) model?!
After reading the many bugs and problems with 2019, very reluctant to move on to that one. I'd hate to purchase that 2019 upgrade and they leave it to die and NEVER fix it, but force me to SUBSCRIPTION after they take my money.
CorelDRAW Upgrades are Ending!
Now is your last chance to upgrade to CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2019. Later this year, upgrades will no longer be available.
No. CorelDRAW will not be a subscription model only. Nobody will force you to subscribe. You can buy the next version (the box version) as always, and use it for a lifetime without paying anything extra.
The only thing that will end is the discount for previous versions. In the present, if you have, for example, X3, X4, X5, etc., you can buy CorelDRAW 2019 at half the price (approx.). This discount will not be available from the next version.
The PROBLEM is the upgrade is going away... that's the problem however you want to spin it.
Yes, but the current model is unsustainable, you can have a version of ten or twenty years ago, and get a discount, being quite difficult to check the validity in some cases (remember that in previous versions was not mandatory online registration). And there are people who have already updated their program and want to update it again. Moreover, they believe they have the legal right to update it.
In theory, it seems simple. The company could say: "can only be updated since the last previous version" but that would exclude many people who have one or two versions before. Or they could say, "You can only update once" but that would only postpone the problem for a year. The following year, people who want to update again will not be able to do so.
So what is the solution? What would you do if you were the owner of Corel?
Any option leaves a group of people dissatisfied. Imagine, for example, that you bought CorelDRAW 2017, then you upgraded to version 2018 but now you can not access the discount to buy version 2019.
A third option would be to be able to buy the full version (following the previous example, CorelDRAW 2017), and provide the optional upgrade to each subsequent version at a fraction of the price. This option is currently offered by the company (this is called "Upgrade Protection Program" and it costs 99 dollars for each future update you want)
What would be the best solution for you?
The best solution? Keep it the way it has always been. If I qualify to buy the upgrade let me decide what year upgrade I want to buy. Might be 3 or 5 years from now but that's what I want. I was ready to make my push to have our company purchase 4 upgrade licenses from X7 to 2019 but it has too many bugs so I'd prefer to wait until the next version.
Note to Corel quit trying to reinvent the wheel and just concentrate on fixing the bugs.
Totally agree.
