WOW! I was pleasantly surprised, I opened a 20 page ID PDFD booklet file into 2019 update 3 and it has been going amazingly well.
All text came in as artistic text as expected but I did have one issue ffi came in as a chinese character.
another oddity I've found, even with text converted, is that the "fi" characters used together will drop the dot on the lowercase "i". Are you saying that isn't the case at all and that it's actually a chinese character?
It may not be Chinese but it really looked like it to me.

Likely that is the way that font has its ligatures. It's fairly common that a ligature drops the dot in its ligature. As ligatures are turned on by default, CD will compose them back as long as the pdf is encoded properly and CD decodes the pdf properly--which it does not always.
