Im having a hard time trying to figure out how to upload variable fonts. I know where to go to get them and I know where to find them on corel. My problem is I download a zip file how do I add that font list to Corel. Im a one week old newbie any help would be great.
Cheers
Variable fonts install direct into the Windows OS the same way as any font. Just right-click on the font file and select "install." If you just want the font to be read by Corel's Font Manager place the font file in the target folder or folders you have Font Manager using. When you select a variable font, such as Bahnscrift (the one variable font included in Windows 10), the variable axis options become available on the tool bar.
I hit download and it pops up on the bottom feed. That seems to be about it. It just gives me a zip file I dropped into the fontdata base under the corel folder and it didnt do anything. Do I have to unzip the folder and if so Im sorry im not sure how to do that
right-click the zip file and choose unzip
Yeah, like Myron said, un-zip the file. You can right click on it and unzip it that way. I prefer doing a lot of file management tasks within Windows File Explorer. You can double-click on the zip file there. Windows defaults to bringing up a new window. But you can close that and then go into the folder that usually gets created when you unzip something. Just move the folder or the contents inside of it where you want it stored. I try not to keep a lot of stuff in my "downloads" folder.
Variable Font files will often look no different than any other typical font file in Windows. The other day I bought a Variable Font version of TT Supermolot Neue. I had purchased that type family before, but with the Variable Font update I was offered a 95% discount ($295 font for $13.95). The file is technically an OT TTFV file but Windows labels it as if it's just a regular TrueType font file 338 KB in size. The standard OpenType fonts in that family are around 60 KB in size. At least the word "variable" was in the font name. But that's not always the case with variable fonts.
