I just bought CorelDraw2020 since I had so many problems with 2019. And it's crashing all the time! I'm doing normal actions - selecting, using the shape tool, on standard .cdr files. I try to save all the time, but I can't save every 10 seconds, and I keep losing a few minutes of work with every crash (not to mention restarting the program and opening all my files.) What is going on?
To clarify: first the program freezes, then it just closes.
That sounds beyond a problem is the software. Better list your machine details.
Have a look in the windows event viewer and see what has red flags.
If I was guessing, I'd say you have a memory issue. So test that and run it out or in as a possibility. The Windows tool is useless.
Use... https://www.memtest.org that's free.
Delete temp files
Then do windows check disk
What you have got is beyond a software bug. But in any case you have to rule out any hardware error before you can be sure what any other problem might be.
Then
From the desktop, press the Win+X hotkey combination and from the menu select Command Prompt (Admin).

You cannot just make a bland statement like that without knowing for sure. It is obvious that Corel releases new editions with bugs.
My question to yo72 is, does this happen to every cdr file that you work on or only some of them?
Frank, when we talk about software bugs it is infuriating *** like the magnifier no working until you click the screen. This sort of system total instability doesn't even happen in beta versions of Corel.
I can talk about it with current information here, I have my own issues I'm tracking down. I've been tracking down Windows issues for 30 years. What's described above is highly unlikely to be a Corel issue.
Beside, you have to sort this stuff out from the hardware up.
Hardware >> Operating System >> Application
If you have an error in memory you can have 90% of applications work perfectly. They won't be the app that stress memory and the GPU. It will look like strange crashes and Windows will attempt to kill the application but not reboot. It will look like an application problem.
If you want a simple user test then create a bitmap in PP that will require all of RAM. I have a 4Gb panorama that is enough to make a mess if there is a memory error. I'm actually using GIMP for testing, but any decent bitmap editor will do it.
With my memory error, everything works fine(ish) by of the 32Gb installed only 8Gb is usable to the OS. This is a particular sort of memory error here related to using new and old RAM. I can turn on the error by speeding up RAM to the value the Bios picks as correct.
Trust me, there is no one in this forum that won't talk about Corel bugs objectively.
And excuse me! I didn't make a bland statement! I made a very detailed effort.
Trust me this is a memory issue. I know what they look like, I've seem plenty of them over 30 years.
Thank you so much for your advice. I was pretty sure this wasn't a memory issue, since my computer had been gone over by some technicians a few times, and everything was okay - except for my Corel, which is why I went ahead and upgraded to Corel2020. I had a "brainstorm" that it might be my filter (I don't like my family or myself to be exposed to ***) which was causing the issues; I just had a technician from my filter company allow all the Corel files, so hopefully there won't be any more issues. I'll write in again if there are any more issues.
Filter? What filter? Your firewall? Your antivirus software? What are you talking about?
