Drill a rectangle

Hi everyone,

I am trying to create a logo for web purposes.

I have two objects: a black rectangle and a curve.

I need to make the "final" rectangle to looks like this:

So, whenever I put the rectangle over another image it will be transparent like:

I have tried combining them but the result is not what I need:

Also tried Powerclip, same result:

Any idea?

Trim? Using Back-minus-front to subtract the "P" from the rectangle? Simplify? Smart Fill? By clicking somewhere inside the rectangle, but outside the "P"?

You might try selecting the nodes of one curve shape, say the square, and right click > Reverse Subpaths, then with the square on bottom select both objects and then combine via "Back minus front"

Am I seeing this right? The result should look like A?
Well, that's pretty easy to solve. Cut off the overlapping piece from the "P", remove it.
Then place everything on top of each other: first the black rectangle then on top of it the white "P".
Align flush. That's it.
