Hi there, I have just updated to the subscription v2022. And I'm finding it keeps crashing on me. I have experienced crashing in the past on v2020 because it hasn't liked the fonts. But this is crashing for no reason I can see. Is this happening to others of just me - tempted to go back to v2020
I seldom had issues with previous versions of CorelDRAW however with 2022 crashing has become a common occurrence that happens randomly - moving an object, zooming and even saving the file. (!) Just today exporting a file it crashes when the dialog window opens.I have done nothing to my PC, everything is the same, no new software, drivers, no surfacing porn, nothing.I'm adept with PC issues and a CorelDRAW user since x12 and I am stumped!
The odd thing is I have two other versions 2020 & 2021 and they all must be sharing files as they do this too. I will uninstall all of them and start over and report back with the results
I have two different installations of CorelDRAW 2022, one on my work desktop running Win 11 Pro and my Alienware X17 at home running Win 10 Pro. Both installations have problems with crashes. Two kinds of crashes occur. The more common one is I'll be working along and then suddenly when I click on objects I no longer see any selection dots. I can try to click on items and move them but the screen won't update the move. I can still zoom in/out, switch to any other open document tabs and even save my progress. But I have to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to bring up Task Manager to end the CorelDRAW process. The close button won't work. I have to kill the process in order to re-launch the application. When I re-launch CorelDRAW it will say something about an auto backup file being available. So I kind of suspect the auto backup feature in CorelDRAW may have some kind issue. If I manually save my work frequently enough to avoid Corel's auto-backup engaging this kind of crash usually won't happen. The other kind of crash is more severe. I'll be working along and then "poof" the whole application window disappears. And all my progress is lost with the disappearing act. Earlier today I was encountering this crash repeatedly when using the Roboto Serif and Roboto Flex typefaces in a document. If the text objects were set in those fonts the CorelDRAW application window would disappear while trying to save the file. When I converted the text objects to curves the file was able to save successfully.CorelDRAW has all kinds of bugs, many of which are going not-fixed. The head honchos at Corel and higher-ups at KKR want to kick us long time users off the $99 per year upgrade protection plan. But they can't manage more than one or two updates per product cycle. Adobe Illustrator gets tons of point release updates and bug fix updates inside a 12 month span. CorelDRAW seems badly neglected by comparison.
As I said I found it was AVG which was causing a lot of my woes. I've since changed and I'll see if this made any difference.
Illustrator is one of my daily pain in the butts. I draw full size in CorelDRAW but their 'canvas' is limited to 227 x 227 inches and a recent project I completed is 600 inches wide so I have to scale it down for others. Then I get ai artwork which is scaled that I have to enlarge to full size. Plus there is no workspace customization with Illustrator.
It has been awhile since Adobe added a large canvas mode in Adobe Illustrator. AI files can now be as large as 2275" X 2275." They've been adding quite a few other new features along with frequent bug fix updates. Also Illustrator does offer ways how to customize the workspace. There are several different stock workspace options, each of which can be modified. I usually start out with the Essentials Classic workspace and then customize that a good bit with the palettes I want off to the right edge of the screen, collapsed in its own tool bar. Then I have another tool bar with Astute Graphics plugins I use most often. Overall, Adobe Illustrator is a lot easier to use via the updates they've made in the last couple years. There's still other improvements I'm begging for them to make, but at least it seems like they're listening to the requests.
I would love to see Illustrator run a 189 foot x 189 foot complex file. I've done 150 foot x 150 foot with Draw but my architectural clients choke on big AI files and I'm talking barely outdoor sign size, like 15 foot. Now that we can get back indoors I'll have to try one.
When working in large, outdoor advertising style sizes it is critical to choose a proper document raster effects setting. There is ZERO need to use a default 300ppi setting. That's very often the culprit why large Illustrator documents end up choking the computer. User error. If I'm working at billboard sizes or larger I'll have it dialed in a custom setting, such as 25ppi. Illustrator runs just fine then.
With a version of AI just a year ago a printed 3/8" thick acrylic project with a (it wasn't a pattern fill) but that's the best way to describe it) just choked Illustrator to a craw with regular lockups. There were 4 panels 60" H x 48" W, it was white flat bed printed in a hatch type vector pattern spelling the word Mercy. After some begging I took the job into Draw, proofed and printed, I was a bit surprised Draw handled it very well, something like 50,000+ objects.
I do the same thing, match the effects and image resolutions to output but vectors are what they are. People should really practice resolution control it reduces RIP time significantly with zero loss in quality.
