Editing the attached image was made significantly more easy with the smart selection mask. The masking process of the bird took about 15 seconds with just a bit of touchup with the mask brush. The natural foreground lighting was very dark, after masking the bird was edited independently.
I'm afraid your camera missed the focus David, it appears the twig that the birds beak is pointing to is closer and in better focus. The birds front is OOF.

The auto focus is not the best in these scenarios but the manual adjustment while holding the exposure button will give you better results if all holds still.
