Design Challenge: Creating Appetizing Food Textures in Vector Art

Hello everyone,

I've been working on a branding project for a fast-casual restaurant—think along the lines of a Mexican grill such as Chipotle, where the appeal is in fresh, vibrant, and customizable ingredients.

My current challenge is illustrating food textures convincingly in vector format using CorelDRAW. I want to depict things like:

  • The grilled texture of chicken or steak

  • The rough, granular look of cilantro or diced tomatoes

  • The creamy consistency of guacamole or sour cream

I’d love your advice:

  1. Techniques: What CorelDRAW tools or methods do you find most effective for creating realistic food textures? Do you prefer blends, mesh fills, texture fills, or something else entirely?

  2. Color Depth: How do you handle shading and highlights to make food look fresh and three-dimensional without overcomplicating the vector?

  3. Stylization vs. Realism: For a menu or packaging, do you lean toward detailed realism or a more simplified, stylistic approach? What tends to work better in this industry?

  4. Examples: If anyone has created similar vector artwork—whether for food packaging, menus, or illustrations—I’d be grateful to see how you tackled texture and detail.

This seems like a common challenge in food-related design like mexican grill chipotle , and I’m sure others here have valuable insights. Looking forward to learning from your experience!

Thanks in advance,
