Hi,
I am using a bona fide, but unregistered, version of CD 9 (!!!!) which I bought many years ago from someone I knew (just gave Customer Service the user code, but I think they wanted that as a part of the sales pitch - they were presuming that I would buy on the phone). I have the box, user manuals, and the CDs. VidMate
A little confused about the best options for purchase, so would appreciate suggestions, advice and help re.:
Should I buy the CAN $249 'Upgrade' version - unfortunately, getting the boxed version is $50 extra (and which, I think, is only a Back Up CD, according to what Customer Service told me on the 'phone)? word counter
Or, should I go with the full, stand alone $549?
I suspect that the "You are eligible for the $249 upgrade" is actually marketing, designed to look good in comparison to the $549 price, regardless of whether or not I had previous version of CD - they really were doing a hard sell on the phone, and it sounded a little sketchy. Am I wrong about this?
It would seem to me to be a waste of money for me to go with the annual (365 day) option, because I am not a professional designer and cannot deduct the cost of the package from my taxes, and also because two years of subscribing will equal the cost of the $549 option.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Hi there. As a previous version owner, you are entitled to the upgrade version (your option 1), as it is a complete version of the product just as the full standalone is (your option 2). Our upgrade option is going away very soon, so beyond that your options would only be the full version or the subscription (which you mention isn't ideal for you). As for CD versus download, even the CD requires components to be downloaded during the install. It's a personal preference thing, and some people like to have the physical CD for various reasons. If that's not a concern, then the download would be just fine for you.
Thanks for your loyalty!
John

I see they are running a special right now $169 US free shipping. Some have seen this go even lower around $139, $149, $159.
Obviously the deadline is around the corner, so who knows if you see the current offer again.
Since v2019 is SO RISKY to use and may or may not see a UPDATE 4 (and even if that makes enough happy), it may be WISE to purchase the $99 US Upgrade Protection also just in case v2019 proves WORTHLESS even with Update 3 (and wishful thinking for a future Update 4 hopefully before v2020), so when v2020 come out, you get that version which "hopefully" will be refined and worth using in a production environment. If not at least a couple or few more chances of updates for v2020 before calling it quits on any further yearly Upgrade Protections if Corel doesn't finally pull through for all of us LOYAL users.
It's at this point I shall be doing the same to to Corel as I did to Adobe and say goodbye. Any kind of rental system of graphics software is appalling and paying 99 bucks per year for the 'privilege' of being able to upgrade is a really nasty thing for Corel to do to loyal customers and proponents of the software; especially after the disaster of version 2019. I've been with CDGS through thick and thin; I even suffered through version 6 and kept going, but this just became the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. So it's good-bye Corel and hello Xara Studio. I shall miss Draw particularly but that's life and things change. Watch your back Corel - Xara just needs to get it's colour management in good order and you are dead in the water and the Adobe suite will eat you alive so then it'll just be Adobe and Xara and I know who'll win that one. Stupidity at board level, I suppose, has caused this and the idea of no upgrades simply beyond the pale. Idiots!
Unfortunately times change. In my area, Lancaster County PA USA, a search shows zero printers in the City of Lancaster anymore. I live here and the Lancaster addreses are post office addresses not municipal boundaries .
The economic impact affects the entire graphic industry. We see everywhere, salaries, number of graphics companies, quality of people in the industry.
This year one of the largest B to B design companies in the U.S., whichbhappens to be in my county reported in the press that they had moved from #11 in the U.S. last year to #10 this year but their sales dropped 45%.
What does that tell you about the graphics industry in the U.S.?
The money is GONE! Corel and many others are selling less expensive software and they're selling alot of it. Corel and others are making short term less expensive options. As long as I can be profitable I'll pick the least expensive route.
The problem with 2019 is that the design issues with the software. Corel has a serious challenge ahead of them with 2020. 2019 is now stable but the errors made with the recoding has hurt the product substantially.
HI Dave,
Not to replace anything, however, I just picked up the new samsung note10+ and the camera with the built in features are mind blowing. I can do with images in seconds that would take a long time in PS or PP. Selections, masks, cut outs, b#w with single full color targets, so much more. I find it hard to believe it does all that, amazing. Even the quality of the 3 different lens's and very high res.
I would suggest if Corel revisits their original v9 release and build off that one we would have a much better 2020 Draw than what we have now.
I also agree with you on the printing industry. It's all now electronic on line. Cheaper, easier to distribute, no paper waste. The times they are a changing.
They have to do something Bob, I think that REPAIRS are in order. RGB to LAB conversions and tone curves edits take 1/3 the time in 2018 because the dialog in 2019 is huge. You have to keep moving the dialog and or the image. Then the curve itself has serious control node issues. That's a mini discussion on one dialog and much the same can be said for many dialogs.
Times are changing, the number of graphics people producing substandard work is huge. By that I mean from a technical standard, I don't judge art.
Shadows that do not reflect lighting, color shifts, blurry transitions, billboards, web and print ads that can't be easily read. I'm getting complaints about legibility from clients in theirv30's, old farts like me need glasses but these kids don't. Stock photos and art that are amature.
One has to wonder if the future will have enough revenue to support professional level programs. That might be where Corel is stuck.
