CorelDraw file compatibility between CorelDraw's Family of products

I was recently told by a CorelDraw sales associate that files created in a CorelDraw Graphics Suite program could only be opened by CorelDraw Graphics Suite programs. Does that mean that a file created in a version of CorelDraw graphics suite CANNOT be opened by CorelDraw Standard, CorelDraw Essentials, or the web-based Corel Vector app?

I could not find any documentation on the Corel website to support the sales associate's statement, so I thought I would ask if anyone else had heard of this file opening limitation.

I am by no means a graphic designer or graphics professional. But I've used CorelDraw since version 3, not X3, version 3. The reason I ask that question is because I currently use CDGS 2018 on my desktop computer to do "minor" graphic projects, and I wanted to get a version of CorelDraw to install on my laptop computer just to open the .CDR files to show clients. I intended to use CD Standard or CD Essentials just to open and view the .CDR files, not to edit them.

  • I cannot tell for sure, but there are many more tools in the CorelDRAW Graphics Suite that are available that might cause issues if you intend to open them in a CorelDRAW version doesn't have them.

Many tools and effects can be applied to objects that can be "undesctructible". Meaning, left with the effects still customizable. If you attempt to open these objects, they could end up corrupted.

I don't know if you CANNOT open these files be the effects will, most likely, be troublesome or corrupted.
