Is CorelDRAW still in demand for design jobs in Canada?

I'm Luna Harper, Founder of 247jobincanada. Lately, we've seen a growing interest in graphic design-related roles, and some users ask whether CorelDRAW is still a competitive skill for foreigners jobs Canada — particularly in industries like signage, apparel, and printing.

From your experience, is CorelDRAW still being used actively in the Canadian job market? Or has it been mostly replaced by other tools?

  • Hi Luna, great question! I’ve been working as a freelance graphic designer in Ontario for a few years, and I can confirm CorelDRAW is still very much in use, especially in signage and printing industries. I’ve worked with a couple of local print shops in Toronto that rely heavily on CorelDRAW for creating banners, vehicle wraps, and large-format signs because of its vector tools and compatibility with CNC and vinyl plotters. It’s particularly popular in smaller shops that prefer its one-time purchase over Adobe’s subscription model.

That said, Adobe Illustrator seems to dominate in larger agencies and digital-focused roles, like web design or UI/UX, where I’ve seen less demand for CorelDRAW. For apparel, I’ve noticed some designers use it for embroidery patterns, but Adobe tools are more common there too. If you’re aiming for signage or printing jobs, knowing CorelDRAW is a big plus, especially for roles involving pre-press or production. Have you seen specific job postings mentioning CorelDRAW, or are you hearing this from candidates? What industries are you focusing on?

  • For many reasons Coreldraw is better suited for entrepreneurs then it is for someone looking to work in a graphics related company.
