Delete keyboard key not working right

I am using CorelDRAW 17 on a Mac with Parallels.  

The  "delete" keyboard key works as expected in other programs such as Word and Exel,  

In CorelDraw, the delete key works as expected when I am composing text.  

However I am unable to select a line or object and use the "delete" keyboard key to make the line or object disappear.  I can select the line or object fine.  It is the "delete:" that doesn't work.

Thinking I might have somehow changed my shortcut commands but can't find "delete" in the list of commands,
