When Drawing with the "Artistic Media tool" How to erase?Looks like lines have to be converted to shapes before the eraser tool works?
Correct; it cannot still remain "Artistic Media" and be editable with the eraser.
In CDGS 2018, the eraser can be used directly on Artistic Media, and it is converted to Curves automatically.

I jumped from X8 to 2018, so I am not aware of exactly what 2017 can and cannot do compared to those versions.
Another nice thing about the Eraser in 2018, compared to X8, is that it doesn't require that only a single object be selected.
