I got the new camera and I'm playing with the ISO to see what I get. the dynamic range of the D50 was killing me
Lots of shadow colour noise in those David, what ISO were you shooting at? Unfortunately Corel is stripping the EXIF data from the photos so I cannot see any info.
It was set to automatic with a parameter of 100 the lighting was a bad condition as he was setting in front of a bay window with lots of light coming in. I have had some better results with the manual setting of 100 with controlled lighting.
Its worth experimenting. Don't assume that noise is better at low ISO's. My 7D is marginally better at medium ISO settings than it is at low ISO. I have to resort to HDR for a lot of my shots because they have extremes of contrast. In fact HDR usually works better for me than RAW.
I've had much better dynamic range results and need to find the time for more experimenting under controlled conditions but this camera will get me where I want for the family pictures.
