Hi all. I haven't been around much since the sign shop closed last october. I do have a bit of freelance work now and then. I purchased a new lap top in the spring. Haven't really used it because I am intimidated by Windows 8. But my husband just got laid off so now I REALLY need freelance work. I want to get coreldraw x6 but I don't know how to know 32bit or 64 bit because I am totally clueless to what that even means. i now have x4. I had x5 briefly at the sign shop but absolutely hated it. I think i read somewhere that on my new computer i can't use x4. Any help greatly appreciated.
THANKS in advance
Lisa
Hello Inj; X4 I think is a Good ver. of CorelDRAW, I don't use PP often. I would go for the X7 over the X6. X4 and X7 do have font imbedding but X6 does not plus X7 has a NEW color engine. If your new computer Is 64 bit that's what I would get, X4 is a 32 bit program but it does work OK on a 64 bit computer. I have X4, X6 and X7 installed in this computer. One way you can pick up some extra money is by going out to a business and sell them Business Cards we pick up about $50.00 a order on a thousand card order. If you would like the info on where and who I use you can drop me a email. Also don't forget banners, you can do the layout and send it to the same co. for printing.

For lack of a better word, I'm afraid of x7. After having bad experience with x5, and hearing stories of other bad version, I worry about purchasing a bad one. At the sign shop I worked with 11,x2, x4, and briefly x6. As i said, x5 was so awful that I had to take it off the work computers. I actually ended u with a couple files that i could never open after having used x5. It was bad enough having troubles at work. Now that I would be buying it myself, I REALLY can't end up with a bad one. I've been putting off buying any hoping that the costs would be lower.
Sorry I haven't been back here for a while. Things got crazy with my husband being laid off.
Anyways, this is my new computer

So I'm assuming it's fine to get the 64 bit version of x6 ??
i have some design work to do. Quite nervous because i'm afraid of windows 8
And am I correct that I can't use my x4 with windows 8??
Thanks

Congratulations! you have a TOO MUCH powerful computer!
I'm still using a Core-2 Duo with 4 Gb of RAM, So, you have a computer 10 times more powerful than mine, so i believe that it's enough. I don't use Windows 8, but there's not reason to have afraid about it. It's not so different than XP to Windows 7, if it works with Win7 it should work also on Win8.

X6 is no longer available for buy, and since it was the first version for 64 bit, X7 will run better, and also, CorelDRAw X7 was made for Windows 8, so it should works better on your computer than X6. btw if you already has CorelDRAW X6 you can install and use it without problem. The 64 bits version has the advantadge of allocate more RAM memory for each program and allows to use the max avialable of your 8 Gb instead the up to 2 Gb max that was the limit of RAM for each program under Windows 7. On the other hand, some things don't works under 64 like under 32 bits, ie some macros don't run under 64 bits.

X4 should work under Windows 8 in compatibility mode and since the processor is faster, the program will run better, but it will use only 2 Gb of RAM becauseit's a 32 bits software
lnj said:. when going to new>page>.......how do I get a large page like i did in x4? A large large with a box in the center with a specified size?
When you create a new page you should have the "New document..." dialog, where you can choose page size, units and more. if the message don¡t appears, you can enable it under Tools/options / workspace/ general. btw you can change page size after create the document, on the Propierty bar, and also you can input a custom size.
lnj said:2. where is arrange, and why isn't it along the top like before
This is relative to your workspace, so if you go to Tools/options / workspace/ you can choose "Classic" in order to see the menu order as previous versions.
lnj said:3. where the heck is wireframe?????/
Unver View menu, as always. If you don't see it, read the previous answer
lnj said:4. ungroup??? I brought a couple things from old computer with x4, over to new computer with x7. I couldn't ungroup. It was light gray/unable to use.
Group/Ungropu hasn't changed since X4. Maybe the object is locked or is on a different layer, but there's no difference with previous version at this point. If you want, attach the file orupload to a free storage service (such as wetransfer.com) or if you prefer, send me a messsage to ariel.garaza@gmail.com
lnj said:Changing to Classic seemed to fix most of my problems. But not "arrange" It's a real pain to have to go to objects>order>.......
The "Classic" workspace include the Arrange menu
I tried to search "wireframe" on the help menu (F1) and there're several topics about it, attached a capture
