Asked just for fun. I think drawing/painting and music belong together.
Here is my list:
for quick and expressive drawings I listen to alternative rock like Blind Age(unknown to the most of you, friends to me), Linkin' Park, 3Doors Down, Alter Bridge, and many more.
for very freaky ideas I listen to Dream Theatre(though I can't stand that only for 1-2 hours...)
for moody titles and chilley works I listen to recreative Ambient&Trance Techno like XERXES, Martin O'Donnel(Soundtrack from HALO2) and several else.
Now let me know yours...
mo

Hrm....Outside of Paul, I don't think anyone here is old enough to know the music that I listen to while I work.... But it is basically old, old, oldies. Going back to the 30's, 40's and 50's. Plus Sinatra, et al.
(I must be older than dirt.....to be that far into the past...)

On the contrary, Some of my favorite songs are from the old standards. Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong's version of "Summertime" is still one of my all time favorites. Nina Simone's "Sinnerman" and "Feelin' Good" are some of my favorites as well. And I'm just in my early 30's.
As for Sinatra, he's still cool to most people (thanks to the movie "Ocean's Thirteen"). I still listen to his song "This Town" whenever I get inspired to create something. And don't forget Tony Bennett. His 1994 MTV Unplugged album still one of my all-time favorites. If you get a chance, get a copy of Verve Remixed CD. It has songs from Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughan, Oscar Peterson, etc. that are remixed by contemporary DJs and music producers to give their songs a new sound and a new feel to the music. Like giving the songs a long-overdue makeover.
So don't think of yourself as old-fashioned. Think "Old School". They still rule. :-)

If you ever get the chance, Listen to the Jaffa remix of Nina Simone's "Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair" in the Verve Remixed Vol.2 CD. The way they remixed her song gave it the soul and depth that was missing from the original version. I'd highly recommend this to you, or any other Nina Simone fan. Bought mine and I haven't gotten tired of listening to it. Helped me when I had a creative burnout way back then. Still a great source for creative inspiration.
