I use a template for all my drawings that includes a page number in the lower right hand corner (usually says "Page 1 of 4" for example). I usually edit this number manually, which is fine for documents with a small amount of pages, but if I'm working on a large document (50+ pages) and need to re-order some pages it means editing the page number on every page manually.
Is there some way of having the number in a piece of artistic text dynamically update depending on what page number it's on?
Hi JoyMonkey
It should work on your example in the thread. I have explained it in the help. You need not copy and paste the created artististic text. OK follow these steps
Create an artistic text
Apply the font attributes to it as you want it for the page numbering in you file ( Including font, point size, text alitgment ..... & everything.
Place the object on desired position on the page
Run the utility & enter the desired "Start Page Number" Prefix & Suffix ( if needed)& click proceed.
All pages in the file will be numbered in sequence & the starting page number will be the one you have specified.
I have already used & tested it for my own job of 1200 page book. Hope it works as you desire.
Try it as I have mentioned here.

Thanks for your response.
I have extensively used Print Merge. This feature can be used for page numbering but has a very limited usage. Now in X4 one can use print merge to write the results to a separate CDR file. This addon feature can be used to number the pages. But this will require to number the pages first, create a file with the results & then create the matter on the pages. This can be inconvenient if the quantity of the pages is chaged.
Gadget said:{PS There is also a pre-press printing thingie that automatically prints page numbers with crop marks and the likes - that can be used to print the page numbers on the page rather than outside it}
Page numbering available on Pre press menu is meant just for reference for the printers & binders.
This cannot be useful for page numbering in the job pages because :
1) The font & text arrtibutes are not under users control.
2) The position of is fixed & cannot be changed by the user
3) If one desires to have unnumbered pages in a book, its not possible.
My macro was created considering all these needs.
I would be happy on feedback from more users on my utility.
Hi Anand,
I'm also working on a large document of more than a 1000 pages, spread over 30 files. I need the page number to start at specific numbers in each file - as it is in your case - but the macro that you provided is only 1K and does not appear in Corel despite having pasted it in the GMS file.
Could you please provide your macro again ? I desperately need it.
Thanks
Euphorik
I tried the macro Anand provided and it works great in X3. For some reason the macro menu is grayed out in X4. Why the heck would that be?
Page number need to be sorted. They should be driven by smart tags on master pages.
Remember here that master pages were only resolved in X4 therefore I think it is reasonable to have an expectation that 'mater items' like page numbers are to be resolved in X5. Perhaps sooner if someone wrote a macro that made correct use of master pages.
What brings items 'up the list' for the up coming X5 is significent comment by the community. I'd suggest that no one indicate 'satisfaction' with the current approach which place a number on the actual page and that we push for master items. Something that could be accellerated by Corel releasing some sample macro code of what such an approach would look like.
I've said my peice on it... additional requests are the best method to push to get this sorted.
