I have a brand new CorelDRAW GraphicSuite X5 Education Edition, but It seems I'm too silly to install:
Full of grace I opened the DVD-Booklet and start the installation software .. but then ...
When entering the serial, I use the one from the DVD-Booklet (there is just one - I looked all sides ...), the installation software tells me, the serial shall be wrong. The letters are clear as water, missmatch between numbers and alpha characters is not possible.
The number looks like this: XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXXXX (4x7 chars)
Strange, so I' tried to contact Corel support:
First created an account on the corel website, then registered my product. This was ok, but when I view my registred products, The registred serial number is displayed as 'Corel Designer' instead 'GraphicSuite' . However, this could be a bug on the registering system so I tought.
And then I tried to drop a message to the Corel Support, but when I filled out the contact form and try to submit, first a message appears "Your case has been created", and then immediately a second one "Case creation failed".
This happens before one week, and since then I tried it every day with the same result. I got no feedback on e-mail, so I guess the 'Case creation failed' is prior to 'Your case has been created'.
I'm very confused - what should I do?
Help is very appreciated.
I'm using Windows 7 Professional x64
Cheers
Patrick
We had a problem with a very small number of CorelDRAW X5 Education Editions that we produced at the end of last year. Can you contact me per direct message with your email address (or send me an email through this site) with your details (serial number, email address,...) and I will get someone to follow-up with you.

hi Gerard
I just sent you an e-mail trough this site. Thank you in advance

I have a similar problem with my Education Edition of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5. I bought it for the student in our family in December 2010 as part of a bundle of products from Academic Superstore.
I have tried to install it several times. I didn't get the "invalid serial number" message at first, but I do now. Perhaps because I tried download of trial version using my S/N and, per tech support, I cannot activate a trial version with my serial number?
Here's the thing: First install attempt from CD, and all subsequent attempts, go like this: It always looks like it is installing for 15 minutes, and then at the end gives me the message, "Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again. This action is only valid for products that are currently installed. Click "Finish" to quit the setup."
In March 2011, I was advised by Corel tech support to first download the trial version, then uninstall it and then install from CD. That did not work. No matter how I did this, always the same result.
Quoting from tech support email: "If you recently installed a trial version of CorelDraw before installing the Academic Edition, please re-install the trial version again on your computer. After the installation, use the trial version installer to uninstall CorelDraw Graphics Suite X5. Then, install from Academic Edition of CorelDraw Graphics Suite X5. Please note that you cannot use your serial number to activate a trial version."
I did not follow through and finish resolving the install problem back in March because the project my daughter needed it for was past, and we were extremely busy with other things. Kind of overlooked the 'free tech support for only 90 days' rule, or I should have persisted.
But, alas, I never got my X5 installed, and am seeking answers in forums, now. Desperately need this update to replace my copy of Corel Paint Shop Pro X which came preloaded on our Dell PC about six years ago, and is no longer supported by Corel. (Windows XP Media Center edition, Ve.2002, SP3, .NET 3.5)
Yesterday, I decided to at least ;eave the Trial version on my pc until I could find resolution to the official install, but when I clicked to activate the trial version, I got the message, ""Error: Invalid Serial Number." Tech support did tell me I could not activate the trial version with my S/N, so I guess I can use it for about 22 more days.
As I recall, back in March 2011, I did not bother entering my S/N to download the trial version. Since it didn't work that way, I tried it with the S/N.
I have read in forums that installation issues like this are common with CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5. I realize I'm way past my 90 days free tech support opportunity, but I really would appreciate your help on this.
So much frustration. I am sitting here salivating over this excellent software package in a box, and no way to access it!!! We also have Corel VideoStudio Pro X3 from the same bundle, and that is still sealed in the box. I am so hoping there are not issues with that, also.
Any assistance you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
(previous tech support contact: "cannot install CorelDraw GS X5 [Incident: 110310-000091]," opened March 10, 2011, closed March 17)
Best regards,
Cindy
More details: I had not downloaded the trial version first. "X" was already on my system for years. I tried to install X5 from disc. That failed (as described in previous post) and so I contacted tech support. Even following their advice--install trial, uninstall trial, re-install from disc--the result was the same error message (see above).
Have tried CCleaner on advice from another post to delete registry items related to Corel. Kept backup of original registry. Always after install trial/uninstall/install X5 failed attempt, the registry cleaner finds a missing/shared dll file: "vsta_config.xml" referenced in the registry to two folders--one for CorelDRAW and one for CorelPHOTO-Paint. I searched Programs and Windows folders and did not find that file.
During installation, maybe three black pop up boxes flash by the screen, usually so fast I cannot read them. In one, i could clearly see: "AddinUtil.exe. This file I found in C:\Windows\Microsoft.Net\Framework\V3.5\AddinUtil.exe .

Cindy, the problem that I mentionned about the serial number problem only affects a very small number of Education Edition boxes produced in Europe in November 2011. Can you send me a direct message / email through this site with all the details as well as where you live so that I can follow-up internally?
