We installed a version of X6 on a new system and every time we open files with text that have been saved in RGB mode they convert to CMYK. We tried changing the default color management settings and the text settings in Default object properties but it does work?

Well, if you can provide more details it will be more easy to help you, for example: what colo settings have you changed. CorelDRAW X6 (as X5 and newest) allows to embed the color profile on the document, then if you have a RGB document, when you save it oyu should enable the option for embed color profile, then the file will open as RGB a¡on any computer. But if you didn't include the color profile and your default color mode is CMYK, when you open it the file will become CMYK.
Then, the steps are:
1 - Go to Tools / color management / default settings and choose RGB as Primary color mode
2 - For each document, go to Tools / color management / Document settings and veryify that the Primary color mode is RGB .
3 - When save a file, verify that you're including the color profile
We cant even get our default color mode to stay in RGB. If I start a new document and go to Tools/color management/default setting and change to RGB and then start typing text or creating a graphic every thing converts to CMYK.
I've also tried to change the text/graphic properties in the Default Object properties tab and it doesn't work??? I must be missing something!
Launch CorelDraw (with no document open) go to tools color management, default color management, in that dialog set primary color mode to RGB, close dialog close CorelDraw launch CorelDraw.
The next document should be created as primary color mode RGB.
The document color management dialog will remember the last setting, so after you change the default primary color mode, t if you start a document and change the docuemnt primary color mode to CMYK close that document and (without closing CorelDraw) start a new document it will be in CMYK.

if you already created a document on CMYK, tnis document will be CMYK until you go Tools / color management / document settings and change it. If you go to color management / default setting with an open document, it will apply to the future documents, not to the actual document.
As David pointed is better if you set RGB as default debore open any file. And of course, remember to save settings (Tools / save settings as default).
Ariel are finding the tools save settings as default helps? I have them set, close then reopen Draw.
