Never had the need to do this before but I actually decided to open a new file using File > New. It opened a small window in CPT format. In Document Properties I noted the units were in millimetres. My default, I thought, was set for Pixels. I checked Tools > Workspace > General > Distances > Units and there it is, set for Pixels. However, I noted in Ruler, Grid and Guidelines it's actually millimetres. I can't see how to change the default for New files so that they open up universally in Pixels. Any help appreciated.
I don't have X6, so my comments are based on what I see in X7...
When you use File>New, do you then get the "Create a New Document" dialog?
The settings I most recently use in that dialog appear to be used the next time I create a new document - even if I have chosen to disable display of that dialog.
If that dialog has been disabled, it can be turned back on in Options>Workspace>General with "Show New Image dialog box".
Hello Eskimo. OK, I got it now. The dialogue was turned off. Thanks.
