I just discovered that X6 Draw and Paint 64 bit won't scan - the options are greyed out. I'm guessing this is because my Epson Twain Driver is 32 bit. Is there any chance this issue will be addressed in a service pack or update, and if so, can anyone guess at the timeline? I don't do that much scanning and if I get X6 I wouldn't want to keep X5 installed just on the off chance that I need to scan. Thanks.
So we both addressed this issue on both our blogs! There you go, its a good product.
It saved me a lot of time today.
Thanks for the links. Reading the blogs I think that Corel could have addressed this issue before releasing X6. The lack of 64 bit twain drivers was obviously well known and a third party seemed to have knocked out a part-solution very quickly. For myself I've just realised I can use the built in scanner provided by Microsoft that came with Windows 7. I don't do enough scanning to make it imperative to scan directly into Draw. Cheers.

It wasn't actually knocked out that quickly. It was originally done awhile back with several beta users tesing it, but I needed to wait for the release to do some final cleanup and rebuild the project.
I can't use any Twain drivers in CS4 either, for my scanner anyway, which is the same as Stefan's. I can only use WIA Import, so I started digging into the WIA docs a little bit before I even knew Corel was going to do a 64-bit version. Twain is an old technology with roots back in the 16-bit days, although at least in preliminary tests, I did figure out how to make the 32-bit versions work in X6 64-bit and if it continues to go well, it will be in the next release of scanner control.
...there's some cooler things on the horizon...and it is Thanks to the Corel Dev Team that I can even pull this stuff off.
Hi Andrew,

I looked into it a bit more and Transparency Scanning is not a limitation of WIA, but what you can do is send me an email and I'll forward you a something you can try. I can't promise it will work, but it just might.

That is something I can't help you with, but I do have something that will allow many 32-Bit Plugins to work in CorelDRAW X6 64-Bit. I tested it fairly extensively in an X6 Beta, but haven't dug into it yet with the release. I have a lot on my plate right now.

64 Bit plugins are a nightmare no matter what side of the coin you are on...if you wrote a pretty complex one and then want it to work with the newer SDK, it's a ton of work depending on what it does...for those creating something to host those plugins it is even more so because there so many different authors of plugins, a very extensive API and my personal belief is Adobe intentional left some things out of the docs so PS would always rule. One missing thing in the API and if a plugin uses that one thing, it is not going to work at all.
...for a third party that even supports PS Plugins, Corel has always done it best, so if it can be done, they are the guys that can pull it off.
PS. I did send you an email with a link to a newer version of scanning control.
