Have a couple dozen old corel files. I installed version 3 on an xp virtual machine and they won't open in that. I installed version 9 and they won't open in that. I guess most of them them were created with version 4 or 5 (been using corel for a long time but can't find those disks). Hopefully they're not corrupt. Perhaps, I need version 7. Any thoughts on that? Anyone have a version 7? Any other way to retrieve these files?
I'm looking to retire my old Win 7 machine so I'd like to recover them before I go fully win 10 (which apparently won't load old corel versions). Thanks for any help
Look here how to check flie version
file created in ver. 5 can be opened in CDraw ver. 11
Looking at file properties>details is not helpful as it reports all the files were created with X8, the latest version on the machine.
I installed version 12 and recovered files created after 2001. According to an error message in version X8, files dated 2000 are from version 5.1. Other files give I/O errors which makes me think they were created in version 4.
Bottom line, I need a version that can open version 5.1 and version 4 files. I'm thinking if I can find a version of 7, that might work. Anyone have a copy?
Did you see this part near to end of thread?
"Edit: If you do not have CorelDraw installed, there is no way to find that out unless it's mentioned there on the website you are downloading from"
if no Corel installed you can check version by opening file e.g. in lister of TotalCommander and then on the beggining of file you will see text "CDRxvrsn" where x represent version of CDR file (in that case there is D=version X3, A=10, B=11, C=12 etc.). So this can suggest min. version of CDR that has to be used for file opening.
All I see is a bunch of ascii code in the file -- no "ver" Only copies of ver 7 on ebay/amazon are $100 -- not worth iit even though I have 70+ files to be recovered. Most are probably of no use. Guess I'm SOL.
If you are interested you can send me some samples to see what I can do for you.
Ok will do. Found a copy of Corel 6 online and it will not load on the Windows XP virtual machine. It dates back to Win 95 which is archaic -- many things (including Corel) that ran on it are apparently now lost to history..
