CorelDraw X6 and PhotoPaint X6 are crashing on start-up (while the splash screen is present), with this message "CorelDraw X6 (64-bit) has stopped working" and "Corel PhotoPaint X6 (64-bit) has stopped working".
It was working fine a few weeks ago, but has since started doing this. I've gone back to a previous restore point and then re-installed the package several times, switching off everything I can think of, including my anti-virus package, but I get the same problem straight away - from the very first time I try to start CorelDraw or PhotoPaint. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
What should I do to get it working again?
You might just want to reinstall Corel...
Also, if you are able to get to it, try disabling the screen that pops up by default (shows recent files, etc) I have had problems with those screen in the past and is one of the first things I disable.
I have re-installed it numerous times. CorelDraw or PhotoPaint launch never gets past the splash screen. I have tried every combination of compatibility mode available in Windows 7, but I get the same error regardless. I have also tried launching in all compatibility modes, with and without admin mode. seems like something is clashing with Corel, but as yet I can't see what it could be.
Are you installing 32bit or 64bit?
I recently ran into issues with 32bit in Win7 64bit
Also...there are numerous basic computer maintence things to consider:
Run virus/spyware utilities (e.g., avg, malwarebytes, spybot, windows defender, etc). Also, download, install and run ccleaner. Its a little technical, but "Hijack This" can be useful (but dangerous if you don't know what you are doing--beware).
After running scans, try disabling any resident protection and see if that helps...
Pressing F8 while loading resets corel, but if its a new install that probably will not be of any assistance.
Everything is 64-bit.
I'm making some progress. CorelDraw does start consistently if I run Windows using its "diagnostic startup" (set using the System Configuration utility). That suggests the problem is being caused by a service, in which case a process of elimination is my next step, as described in Windows online help topic "Run Selective Startup using System Configuration".
Your investigation suggests that something new was installed in last few weeks that is now causing the problem. You can investigate one thing at a time but start with anything new in last 3 weeks or when it last was working OK.
Try to remember any new installs or windows updates? or any AV updates etc. Or look in your AV settings to see if you can make all Corel stuff on a "white" list of being OK and no need to check it.
Maybe do a system restore to 3 weeks ago or more. Look at the system restore list to see what was a recent install etc.
Good luck, it may take perseverence.
