SD card

Hi

is it possible to move or download pictures from a computer to a SD card

in a few words reversing the operation

  • Yes, certainly, assuming you have an SD card reader of some sort.

Once you plug the SD in and it has been recognised, you may be given several options, including display in windows explorer. After that it is just a normal drag and drop operation, the same as copying files between two folders on a hard drive.

But ... an important warning ...

Some cameras, and possibly other devices, do not like you writing to their cards. Without a prior test, I'd suggest you only copy to a card that contains no data that you do not already have backed up. You should also use the "safe remove" procedure before removing the card from the computer.

    • .  On my computer I have a slot card with inscription SD/MMC

what I am trying is to transfer some photos so that I may view them on my Viera Television  if it is possible.

Does it mean that you need a programme to go with it

      • There are two standards -- SD and SDHC. Both look visually identical but they are different internally,

Generally, cards up to 4Gb are SD and cards over 4Gb are SDHC. So first you need to check which your TV supports -- maybe only SD.

Your computer slot may also be SD only -- in which case it will not read SDHC cards.

If you want SDHC and your TV supports it too, try one of these -- it plugs into USB (preferably but not necessarily USB 3.0) and it works fine with SDHC cards up to at least 32Gb, even on 32 bit windows XP. No program is needed for that -- just plug it in.

But you can get a lot of photos in 4Gb, at full TV resolution, so it is likely you only need SD.

        • Thanks Harry

I'll have a go  will let you know the result

          • Could you explain what do you mean by  " Safe remove "

            • Safe remove (also referred to as eject) is a way to ensure that windows has finished writing to the card before you remove it.

After you insert the card, you may see an icon on the taskbar.with displays "Safely remove ..." when you hover over it. If so, click on that and you should then be given a list of removable devices, including your card. Select that and it will eventually say "safe to remove ...".

If you do not see the icon, then right click on the folder for the SD card and use the eject option, which works the same way.
