In previous version of CorelDraw (x5 and before) you could open the CDR file in notepad and look for CDR?vrsn to find out which CorelDraw version created the file.
example: CDR9vrsn = CorelDraw 9CDRAvrsn = CorelDraw 10CDRBvrsn = CorelDraw 11CDRCvrsn = CorelDraw x2 (12)CDRDvrsn = CorelDraw x3 (13)CDREvrsn = CorelDraw x4 (14)CDRFvrsn = CorelDraw x5 (15)
But now in CorelDraw x6 (16) and CorelDraw x7 (17) the CDR?vrsn no longer exists in the CDR file. How do you tell what version a CDR file was created in (without the CorelDraw app) for x6 and x7 versions?
You can try following steps:1. change extension from CDR to ZIP (myfile.cdr to myfile.zip)2. open zip file 3. go to folder META-INF4. open file metadata.xml5. find section <cdr:ProductName>CorelDRAW X7</cdr:ProductName> <cdr:AppVersion>1700</cdr:AppVersion> <cdr:BuildNumber>491</cdr:BuildNumber>

Here the shell extension will show the correct file version for v14 files and later, but seems incapable of displaying files versions pre 14, POS that it is.
In an explorer window right click on a column heading choose 'more', find File version and check the box, OK out.
Annoying as hell if you resuse files a lot since x7 will not open v5 and previous files, I then end up having to open X5 to open the file, save it again as a later version so X7 can open it. Grrrrr......(and dont suggest I convert all my files, I would if there was a sensible way of doing it but the File Converter macro will not recreate a folder tree and I cant select files by version)
