I tried opening up a project in my CorelDraw x7 and it is loading very slow! I JUST bought a custom build computer with 16GB and fast processor, so it should not be doing this. I tried opening up the same project in illustrator and it loads just fine.
When I try and open in Corel, it loads every object and layer of object one at a time. When I try to move an object it loads everything on the screen one at a time again.
It would be very difficult to work on anything with this issue. Any ideas what is causing this? I'm thinking its a corel issue since it opens up fast in illustrator.
Hello Judy; If you just bought a Custom built computer for graphics, call them and tell them you want it set up for graphics, And tell them you Don't want any of the bull S products running on the computer at start up, stuff you want like antivirus, ect. are fine. A good CPU and mobo with 16 gig of ram should be really fast. As you can see I'm using a i5 2500K Intel on a ASRock mobo and it's the fastest thing I have made signs with. but they are old school now and newer better toys are out to build with. You can tell them that you talked to a NUT on the net that said it sounds like it's not set up right for graphics. And they can email me or call if they aren't sure how to set up a good graphics computer. Which Windows did you get??? I'm using 7 Utl.. If you want you can post a file you are having trouble with so we can take a look at it.

I really don't think its a computer thing. I specifically told them I needed it for graphics. Plus my same document opens up in illustrator just fine and fast.
My computer details are:
AMD A10-770K Radeon R7, 10 Compute Cores 4C+6G 2.40 GHz
16 GB Ram
64 bit operating System
Radeon R7 Graphics...
as mentioned above I really cant show the file because of confidentially agreement , but I will tell you its a tabloid 2 page collection with about 18 graphics on each page, no gradients or special effects, etc..
Like I earlier mentioned it loads 1 object at a time, every time I move something on the page it loads the graphics one at a time again on the page. At the current state I cannot work on anything efficiently.

Soooo couple of questions
1. How can I fix it where corel can handle this many pantone colors?
2. How can I see how many pantone colors the document has?
3. How many pantone colors can corel typically handle?
You need not fix it. Corel needs to do that.
Your document has only 24 colors. Its down in the document color palette. If not seen, reset the document palette (located at the bottom of the screen by default) and it will pick the colors from the document. I had to count the swatches though.
CorelDRAW should be able to handle PANTONE or any other color palette just as well as it handles RGB or CMYK. Your document proves that it does not.
This is an issue that should be reported to Corel... and hopefully, they will fix it...when??... your guess is as good as mine! It would be wise to note, that a ton of bugs that users have reported since the release of X7 have yet to be fixed.... even after 2 updates have been released.
CorelDRAW is just a tool, YOU, are the artist. If you have invested time and effort to become proficient with the use of other software tools that do the same job, you will never be handicapped, by broken software. It is never too late to learn :)
P.S: There is no problem with your computer! If ALL your other software works perfectly well and just one (CorelDRAW) freezes, crashes, and/or does anything other than work properly, the problem is the software, in this case, CorelDRAW and NOT your computer.
No amount of cleaning up temp files, deleting fonts, checking your RAM, changing your video card or upgrading your system is going to help. Basic common sense...if you have 10 programs installed on your computer and did not have any problems until you installed the 11th software, the problem is the 11th software, NOT your computer!. This is the reason Windows has a rollback feature which allows you to restore the computer to it last working state, that is, if you have made a backup of the system prior to installing the software that created the issue.
SUKU...
Yea, I've opened up a support case.. (paid support, unfortunately) because regular support was not able to help. I mentioned before, this is not isolated to one file i've noticed that this is happening to all my files that have pantones in them.
I guess if they can't help me by tomorrow, then I will have to uninstall and go back to X5. Unfortunally I do now know Illustrator enough to be able to work on it. I will probably slowly start training on it to get familiar. I work full time from home and currently rely on Corel FULLY to be able to run my freelance jobs.
I've missed three days of work now trying to figure out why I can't work in a simple corel document. At least now I guess I know it's a pantone issue.. Just the real question is how to get around that and get back to work effectively.
Judy, is this a screen print job, or is it a print on paper?
MikeWe said: Judy, is this a screen print job, or is it a print on paper?
The corel file I uploaded was just a sample of some images I used for screen print. But the files I am really concerned with will be used for licensing collections. 2 page style guide with various graphics, borders etc. My agent needs my collections to be all in pantones.
its definitely a Pantone issue because I opened up several freelance jobs in rgb and no issues. Then I opened up my collections with pantones and all same thing like the sample file.
I called support right before someone here mentioned it might be a Pantone issue, so when they contact me tomorrow I will be mentioning this new find.
Got it. Thanks.
I just opened some more screen print jobs in X6 & X7. I get the same responsiveness in both.
I had mentioned the Pantones seemingly being the (or a) cause. And when rebuilt, the file seems responsive.
Did this job file, and the others you have issues with, begin in a prior version?
There were issues beginning with X6 when opening files with older Pantone palettes. I think the behavior was different than you are experiencing, but I was having trouble just now finding those threads. I think they were centered around legacy Pantone colors turning black if I recall.
Mike
Mike,
I owned X5 before X7 and I was able to work with my files with pantones fine. When you say you rebuilt it,, did you convert to a different color model , them go back and change to spot one by one? What spot pallete are you using?
I don't think I want to go that route though because those style guides have a lot if graphics on them
Judy,
I used the Pantone Solid Coated version 2 palettes. some of my older files use the previous Solid Coated, though.
Yes, I used the same PDF version I mentioned. Then I opened your original file and checked which Pantones were actually being used. I added those to the new file using the Palette Manager. I then selected one object (say the green), used the Find Objects (ctrl+f). The bottom radio button is to find objects that match the selected object. Click Next, then edit the search, unchecking the Curves checkbox. Click next, next, finish.
Then it will find the first match, click on Find All and all the matching colored objects are selected. Then click on the proper Pantone swatch. Select the next colored object, repeat the find from above, ending with selecting the correct Pantone color from the swatches.
It didn't take too long. It was tedious and shouldn't need to be done in the first place. But it worked.
Hi Judy,
I did not read all of the message. Did you install X7 Update 2 ?
Kursad Cakir said: Hi Judy, I did not read all of the message. Did you install X7 Update 2 ?
Yes My Corel X7 is version 12.2.0.688 with 2nd update installed.
Also to let everyone know, I just downloaded X5 back on my pc and I can open up pantone documents just fine, including the example that I uploaded in this thread. So a bug definitely got in there between X5 and X7
