I tried opening up a project in my CorelDraw x7 and it is loading very slow! I JUST bought a custom build computer with 16GB and fast processor, so it should not be doing this. I tried opening up the same project in illustrator and it loads just fine.
When I try and open in Corel, it loads every object and layer of object one at a time. When I try to move an object it loads everything on the screen one at a time again.
It would be very difficult to work on anything with this issue. Any ideas what is causing this? I'm thinking its a corel issue since it opens up fast in illustrator.
Hello Judy; If you just bought a Custom built computer for graphics, call them and tell them you want it set up for graphics, And tell them you Don't want any of the bull S products running on the computer at start up, stuff you want like antivirus, ect. are fine. A good CPU and mobo with 16 gig of ram should be really fast. As you can see I'm using a i5 2500K Intel on a ASRock mobo and it's the fastest thing I have made signs with. but they are old school now and newer better toys are out to build with. You can tell them that you talked to a NUT on the net that said it sounds like it's not set up right for graphics. And they can email me or call if they aren't sure how to set up a good graphics computer. Which Windows did you get??? I'm using 7 Utl.. If you want you can post a file you are having trouble with so we can take a look at it.

I really don't think its a computer thing. I specifically told them I needed it for graphics. Plus my same document opens up in illustrator just fine and fast.
My computer details are:
AMD A10-770K Radeon R7, 10 Compute Cores 4C+6G 2.40 GHz
16 GB Ram
64 bit operating System
Radeon R7 Graphics...
as mentioned above I really cant show the file because of confidentially agreement , but I will tell you its a tabloid 2 page collection with about 18 graphics on each page, no gradients or special effects, etc..
Like I earlier mentioned it loads 1 object at a time, every time I move something on the page it loads the graphics one at a time again on the page. At the current state I cannot work on anything efficiently.
suku,
There is something goofy about the sample file. I rebuilt it using all the Pantone colors and it was fine.
I opened some of the files I prep for a screen printing business in X7. All Pantones with the exception of the 100% K plate. One file had a version with 13 colors and it opened fine. So did some that were originally done in X4 that I rebuilt.
That is not to say there are not issues in X7 (and X6, and ...). There are. But that file is goofy.
Mike
Hello Mike,
I was thinking of doing exactly the same thing to figure out what the issue really was,, but hard pressed at the moment for time. All I tried was to do a quick find and replace the color palette with CMYK and the file worked perfectly fine. SO based on your posts and what I noticed, I just concluded that it was the PANTONE palette that wasn't being handled correctly by DRAW. I've had such goofy stuff happen every once in a while in the past, but chose to ignore it and find other solutions.
I still think the file needs to be investigated by Corel. The file produced the same issues on all our computers, so Corel should have no problem seeing the issue the way Judy had it occur on her system.
So lets hope and keep our fingers crossed :)

I have also done some tests, and confirm that the same design, with all colours globally replaced to either RGB, CMYK or LAB works normally.
But I also tried reducing the number of pantones (currently about 18) to 4 without significant improvement. Also tried with 6 pantones from the Pantone+ V2 palette -- exactly the same.

Just to eliminate a possibility -- is at least one of you not using a Radeon graphics card ?

So why did it open and run fine on my machine? I made no color replacements and my machine is no supercomputer.

An interesting question. It could be also be a particular version of windows, .net, a windows update or something else installed on most of our computers.
Anyway, I'll forward it to Corel with a link to this thread for investigation. I'm sure there's enough information already here to start looking.

In just the last month I have blocked :
Security Update for Windows 7 KB 2918614Security Update for Windows 7 KB 2993651
Those are the only two updates I don't have in windows. Wonder if either of those make a difference. The reason they are blocked is because with them installed I couldn't even open coreldraw. (or microsoft outlook)
Just to show I'm not running a super computer:
I checked out the pantone vs rgb issue just to make sure my computer wasn't changing anything.
Not all of the colors in my document are Pantone. There are 3 RGB colors, Black White and one of the greens and 2 Grayscale 100% black and 0% black. They aren't shown below as there are too many colors for the macro.
Can you confirm in the test file that they are Pantone or RGB? maybe my computer is converting a bad pantone color.
Here are just the colors in RGB and grayscale colors, I've deleted all pantones and added a cyan background so you can see them. I've attached the file too.
One other note, this file was saved as 'slowcorelexample.cdr' yet my computer is opening it as Untitled-1.cdr, like it is an import and not a straight opening. That might be because i am opening it straight from the internet as a temp file. Not sure about that.
Hope this helps someone.
Here's a modified file. All Pantone. Should run better. I used Pantone Plus version 2. If someone doesn't have that swatch, I'll upload it.

I seem to be having the same problem as the op. I posted a new thread but then read this. if the op could do us a favor and try disconnecting the computer from the internet and see if the problem continues. my issue disappears if I disconnect the LAN cable then restart corel.
