Google Drive "file open elsewhere"

I recently switched from Dropbox to Google Drive and after saving a file, for about 10-20 minutes after I can't save the file again. I get an error that says the file is open elsewhere and needs to close.

I have searched the internet for an answer and can't find any. Do I have to abandon google drive and find another option?

Does anyone have a fix?

Thanks

  • I have been struggling with the same problem for months. Right now I have the problem with a file that was synched to Google Drive 13 hours ago, but when I open it, it says:

"The file you are opening is currently in use. To save your work, you may need to save the file with a new name (File > Save As)".

I have checked everywhere, and the file is definitely NOT in use anywhere.

What the heck is going on?
