I have a problem with thumbnails not displaying in CorelDraw X7... shell extensions

What I mean is, I am going back to CorelX7 (for a few more months anyway). I think the extensions were automatically set to use X8 as the default.
So I have tried what you are saying, setting the extensions to other and choosing X7 for "use this program as default". But it doesn't work correctly. :(
I even went into this folder C:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X7\Setup\CGS17\ShellExt.msi and tried uninstalling/repairing/reinstalling that. No luck there either.

This error is new to me. I have seen that other have reported it before.

It really does slow me down, especially if I am trying to find files from before I adopted good naming conventions (I used to just look at the thumbnails and not think too much about the filenames). With that gone, I spent 30 minutes looking for this one file... I eventually found it.

But even naming files correctly, the thumbnails make searching/finding/opening files speedier, because I'd rather not have loads and loads and loads of subdirectories...

Ah, Ok, that's different. Yes, it should be automatically but sometimes Windows doesn't update the information after install/uninstall.

Try to go to Control Panel / Programs, choose Uninstall CorelDRAW X7 but instead to uninstall choose "Repair"

Ok. I just tried that. Unfortunately, still no luck.

This is becoming a bit of a pain, mainly because I like to save my work at frequent intervals so that I can go back to older versions. If I have up to 20 versions of one drawing, I am not going to rename them all accurately (there is no time and it's impractical).

I prefer to just look at the thumbnails and SEE the changes. Right now for example, I am looking for an older version of a drawing where just the eyes of a creature were done differently... in a different colour. Yellow as opposed to white. I would have found that in 2 seconds just by looking in the folder. The changes & versions that I am looking for just stands out in the folder. That's how it should be...

But with this functionality gone, I have literally had to open 15 files separately, which has taken several minutes of my time. It also increases the chances of Corel crashing. It's taking 100 times longer for me to do this part of my work. I can't keep doing this every time I want to refer back to older versions with many little changes that are hard to describe... :-(

I am hoping there is a fix, otherwise I will just upgrade to X8 pronto (but at the moment, it's still a bit too $$$ for me). The truth is, I can't really afford to buy it for just this one thing... perhaps in 2 months?

Is there any registry hacking I can do to get this to work?
I have 4 illustrations to do in 10 days.

Oh it appears to be fixed. While about to contact the support dept, I went looking for my serial number in the help menu, saw that there was an update available, installed that, and it is all back to normal again!
