Hi all,
I am still operating CoredlDraw x7 on the Windows 7 platform but need to upgrade to Windows 10.
Interested to know if anyone has done that and if you came across any problems.
Thanks.
Works on Windows 10, but keep in mind if you rely on Adobe Type 1 font support, Microsoft has removed that (support that is) with the Fall Creators Update awhile back. You can still use Adobe Type 1 fonts, but you may run into mysterious problems since no longer supported natively in Windows. Seems to work fine with Adobe products, but I have personally experienced lag/slow down problems (in X7) when copying (by drag copy) TEXT items that use Type 1 fonts AFTER the Fall Creators Update. Some say they do not experience this, but I defintily have. My workaround was to convert "my" mostly used Type 1 fonts to OpenType and it resolved my problem.
Again, just a heads up is all if you rely on millions of Type 1 fonts in your daily use collection. Otherwise you should be just fine.
I actually now prefer the NEW Type Manager (v2017 up) versus the Font Navigator.
My advice since it's the 21'st century that users settle on open type true type outlines.
That's real easy to say, but when your files go back 25 years+ with Type 1 fonts, easier said then done. And, yes, you start substituting with OpenType/TrueType fonts, then your looking for even more trouble. There's absolutely nothing wrong with Type 1 fonts, but there is now when Microsoft stopped support until not just so long ago. There was no reason for Microsift to do that.
Again, no problems when used with Adobe software though even with Windows 10 past the Fall Creators Update. But then again, Type 1 format was created by the number one graphics company Adobe.
98% of my work is new creation, 99% of the time when needed a type 1 font can be substituted with an open type true type outline with no issues. Please note open type true type outline, NOT open type postscript outline.
With that said I have had many issues with open type postscript outlines as well as type one postscript fonts. Namely between AI and ID, specifically punctuation, in cross application and in cross RIP output.
I have not had any issues using type one fonts in Windows 10 post creators if the font worked in Windows 7.
I don't regularly use my 59 Chevrolet because it's 1959 technology, cool looking with fins and cat eye tail lights but unsafe.
When postscript level 2 provided full true type support I avoided type 1 fonts as much as possible. That was 1991, level 3 was 1997, that was 23 years ago. Open type was produced by Microsoft and Adobe 24 years ago.
Remember Windows 7 support ends this year, 1/14/2020.
