Nexus Font manager and X8 Font Manager.

I was so excited about the new CorelDraw Font Management system but am very very disappointed that there is no auto font activation like Bitstream Font Navigator. We really need that auto font activation here at our shop and without it, the new font management system isn't useful for us at all as we work on a networked system with all fonts stored on our network server.

What do you mean by "auto font activation"?

All the fonts that CFM watches--installed in the OS and any watched folders--are always available to CD whether they are activated (and/or installed) or not.

There is a caveat to this. If you use an activated/installed font for all or part of a design, deactivate or uninstall it but it remains in the watched folder(s), CorelDraw will pop up the Panose screen upon reopening it. So far CD has always had the correct font listed for substituting it.

I don't overly like this behavior. It indicates CFM/CD sees them as two different fonts, or it is simply the location difference. Either way, I don't overly like the Panose screen showing. But like I said, in a practical sense, there is little difference.

Activation simply allows other applications to also see the fonts.

That can't be correct. Panose should not show up in this case.

Panose would only show up if the document was created with an older version of draw or perhaps round tripped From X8 to X4 back to X8 for example.

If you uninstall a font that was used in a document but the font is still monitored by CFM : Panose will not show up and the uninstalled font will work transparently in DRAW.

As far as I can see, there really isn't a means of not using CFM in some way, shape or form. Seem that it is either it is serving CD the fonts behind the scenes when using the font menu in CD, or the same functions--and first access slowness--are rolled into CD. CFM's main usage to me is limited to CD and or CD's usage of CFM to access fonts. I believe this capability is useful to me whether it is integrated or the same functionality is rolled into CD. It is convenient to have access in CD to the font library.

I prefer the FM I use simply due to its functions, how it operates and "presents" itself to me. I suppose that in part it is due to being "comfortable" as I have used it. It is, however, also faster to use. 

With both started, my FM is faster to scroll/view the same fonts than CFM. Faster to pop into and out of for making decisions in all the other applications I use than CFM. I would still need to activate/install fonts for all these other applications anyway, why would I like a speed hit to do so?
