Opening .CDR files and CorelDRAW X8 shows a blank page

A few users have reported that when they open a previously saved file in CorelDRAW X8, a blank page appears. With the help of users on the newsgroup, we have identified the cause of the problem. The files are actually saved intact; however, the software is encountering a glitch when loading the embedded fonts on specific computers. The issue can affect files created and saved in CorelDRAW X8.

We are working to resolve the issue permanently in a product update expected in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, we recommend the following workaround for any CorelDRAW X8 file affected by this issue.

  • In Windows Explorer, open the folder where the problematic file resides.
  • Back up the file by using Copy/Paste.
  • Select the copy you just created and rename the .CDR file by changing the .CDR extension to .ZIP.
  • Right-click the file, and click Open With > Windows Explorer or Open with > WinZip.
  • Click the embed folder, and delete it.
  • Close Windows Explorer or WinZip.
  • Rename the file you just edited by changing the .ZIP extension back to .CDR.
  • Open the file in CorelDRAW.
  • When saving the file, disable the Embed fonts check box in the Save Drawing dialog box.

To help avoid this issue until a permanent fix is issued please do the following:

  • Open CorelDRAW X8
  • To go Tools>Options>Workspace>Save
  • Remove the checkbox from [ ] Embed fonts when saving files

Rest assured, we’re working on a fix for this issue and will update you with a planned release date shortly. Thank you to the community members who’ve helped us identify the issue.
