This very scary message is now popping up when I click save. Since CG12 has been so crash prone I sometimes save very quickly.
"Save As" with a new file name will sometimes fix it.
Sometimes the error will quit appearing. I'm dreadfully terrified there may be file corruption at some point.
The PC has about 2GB of RAM; Intel "586" dual processor; SATA drives (RAID 10) (where *.cdr files reside) (power terminated properly); C:\ drive is an indepenedent IDE drive of its own (CG12 Runs from Program Files on C:\); The Page file has been reset to much larger; Compression has been turned off in "Options;" Latest service pack to CG12 is applied: <version.x.x.536> on "About Corel Draw" from help menu.
I've been running "Disk Cleanup" about every month. Disk Defragmenter came up in late December of 2007 and said the C:\ drive needed defragging. It said the L:\ drive (SATA) was fine and did not need defragging.
Is the file getting saved too much, i.e. getting too old? (Like a time-stamp on the file problem?) (Not enough seconds have elapsed and CG12 goes bonkers?) I don't know if it is a WinXP CRC failure message.

I think the save routine in CorelDraw12 is generally f*cked up... I regularily get hangs and crashes when saving. Just now the program suddenly threw the recovery dialogue when saving ~6h work "for the last" time. Did a safety "save as" before I had to kill the program. Ended up with four empty (12kb) files (including the Backup_of_x files). AARGH!
The autosave function seemingly never generates files on my machine - which puzzles me a bit. Was (partly) saved numerous other times by earlier versions - so never checked before today... But it's quite scary to see nearly a days work vanish. I wonder if the newer versions are more trustworthy?
Take care out there! Best regards,
Anders
I do have Autosave/Autobackup re-enabled for 10 minutes. I still get the error message but can't get the CorelDraw 12 to crash now.
I downloaded "ADPlus" a debugger program from Microsoft available on their KnowledgeBase web site. I was not able to find Symbols for CorelDraw 12
When I try to attach the debugger to "coreldrw.exe" that program teminates. I'm not sure why or what the error codes are in the output file generated by ADPLus. ADPlus has both a "-hang" and "-crash" mode but when I've got the command prompt ready to run it CorelDraw 12 won't crash or hang anymore. (I should maybe send THAT output in to Microsoft)
When that "Error Writing..." comes up I go back and work a few more minutes and try again. No error!
In your case look in "Local Users/Anders/Temp" or something like that for something called "cor1.cdr" you may have to use windows search with the date and time you worked on your file (date and time near crash). Set the searcher to look only in the C:\ drive.
Check under options (Tools -> Options ?) on the top of CorelDraw12 and go into the "Autosave" It should have a setting that will naturally be set to some default location like the one above or set to somewhere else. You can set it to "Data H:\Public\Data_1\Corel Drawings\Error Files if you don't want it in the C:\ drive. You can set to every 10 minutes, 20 minutes and so on.
I try to save as often as possible. the old saying goes "Blessed be the Pessimists for they hath saved their files."
Good luck
Christopher
Hello,
I have similar problem with Corel Draw 12. Since some time it started giving me the message Error Writing : path/file, regardless of folder or file. Same error appears when Corel is attempting to Autosave or if I try to do it manually.
I've found a temporary fix for that which is either saving as another file or using Copy command key shortcut (Ctrl+C) on any object in the file. After doing that the problem disappears, but only until you open or create new file. It is some sort of a solution, but after all it's a bit of a pain in the back side when you have to do it all the time and annoying popup appears every time corel tries to Autosave.
Does anyone know the permanent solution and maybe the reason for the error to appear. Mind you, I was using this version of software without the error for about 2 years and then it suddenly started happening.
Hope someone knows the answer because I couldn't google out the solution anywhere.
